I've had it for a while now and I was wondering how i'd go about tightening the belt.

I usually make sure the fans off when i start the car but its stilll annoying on the odd occasion that i forget.

We dont have fan belts on a fto. A fan belt is an old term that was used back when cars would run the radiator fans off the crank pulley. Most cars nowadys have electric fans. I think you are referring to either your powersteering (and a/c) belt or alternator belt. In which case both have adjustment pulleys that are used to tighten or loosen said belt. You can locate the alternator belt next to your drivers side shock and you will need to loosen of pulley nut before adjusting it. Same applies for the A/C powersteering belt but it is located at the bottom of the engine bay.

Whichever belt it is, mines squeaky too.

Squeaking usually indicates the belt is cooked & should be replaced. Its a 10 minute job.

These days they are refereed to as Accessory belts.
And then you have your engines Cam Belt and Balancer belt. (these being the more expensive item to replace as they entail other duties)

If you have a squeaking cam belt you have a lot more to worry about than a simple belt change lol

hey guys, we just got the car serviced, and all of a sudden ive been hearing a squeaking sound on the driver side. took a look and i dno if its the belts. coz we had them replaced a few months ago and it was perfect, until now.

should i try some WD40? or belt grip spray??

If the belts have quietened down you can probably hear the bearing in one of the tensioner pulleys whining

if it squeeks, it usually means its on the way out, tightening it will actually make it worse by putting more strain on it, then its more likely to snap.

replace both if your gonna do one

if you have just replaced the belt and it starts to squeak it just means that it needs tightening as they tend to streach slightly after a few weeks
as for ac belt you will need to tighten the bottem bolt on you compressor that moves the compressor wheel up so you can take the belt off ( pretty sure its tighten )
never taken the alt belt off but im sure loosening the alt would work as it has in the past with other cars

NO! they each eachave their own tensioners DO NOT remove or try to remove compressor or alt to remove these belts.
Alt one can be lossened via tensioner on top (next to oil dipstick) And a/c p/s is via tensioner under car (sits between A/C compressor and harmonic balancer)

You will need to loosen 14mm nut in centre of tensioner pully and then can slide it up or down using 14mm shifting bolt

yea ( tired talk ) for some reason i was thinking that bolt was on the compressor but its the wheel left of the compressor that pushes the wheel up to tighten it
like i said havent done alt on mine but on my other car theres the tention bolt under the alt

One of my belts.. squeaks when i'm at full lock and sometimes when I hit mivec... Ben Only just relaced like a month ago .. think it just needs tightening.

Lucky I replaced that butchered nut on the tensioner hey!

Just check the tension with your hand, there should be +/-10mm play (slack) in the longest run of the belt - ie the longest section it runs without hitting a pulley.

Keep in mind, sqeaks can be a result of them being too tight as well as too loose..

Oh & btw, if its squeaking when on full lock, it'll be the PS/air con belt (the thicker belt) which is adjusted from its idler pulley under the car.

hmm while this is hear now would be a good time to mention something I noticed. One of the tension wheels wasn't moving in a quite uniform circular motion (and I think it may have been making a sound). It was on the drivers side upper portion of the engine bay. What should I do about it?

Buy a new one. The bearings in those do let go & they can't be replaced, they're a sealed unit. Cheapest place would be for dstocks to get them in from Japan.

Actually, have one of the pulley's in stock at the moment. Its the larger one next to the aircon compressor. If you need the other one, ill have to order it.

Nah the bottom idle pulley is what I think he is referring to.
