Help for upcoming major service

Hey guys,
I'm new to FTO's, and whilst I've done a ton of reading and research into these cars, I'm still pretty much lost when it comes to getting stuff done on it.
So my car's at 108,000 KMs and major service is something I'd want done asap.
What I need are parts, I know what parts (timing kit, water pump, spark plugs, fluids) I need, but not sure where I can source them.
I've tried ringing the standard auto shops (repco, etc), but none seem to have the kits in stock.
It's an FTO GPvR, 1998 auto.
Also, what are good fluids to use, cause I may as well get the fluids replaced while the cars in for service.
Thanks guys

Welcome mate,
First off, just to make sure. Your car hasnt already had the major service has it? It should have been done at 100,000k. SO you would be approaching your 110,000k service which is very minor.
Anyway, lets say the 100,000k service never got done, that is fine, no dramas at all.
This is what you will need to do.
Timing Belt kit (ebay, CBC bearings, BSC bearings)
Water Pump (Pretty sure these are same as HJ galant so can get them from repco but also RPW sells them, kempsy's, and ebay)
Spark plugs - Repco, super cheap, etc etc etc
As for oil - I only use mobile 1

Yep, shoulda clarified, the major service has NOT been done.
Also just checked out what fluids I could, the oil is in need of a change, it's pretty dark.
I'm getting kinda paranoid, don't want to drive the thing in case something gives

Nah you will be fine.
Make sure you at least check the tranny fluid. If you dont know when it was changed last, I would just change it.

Just checked out the transmission fluid, it's pretty bad. I feel like I'm driving on borrowed time here.
I've got the service booked for next Wednesday, so I'm trying not to drive much til then.
Plan to get the major done, and refresh all fluids.
Also, what brand/type fluids should I be looking at buying?
Trans, p.steering, oil, what else am I missing

I'm in Melbourne, and I've got a recommended mechanic doing my service next week.
Brake fluid would probably be a good idea too.
He said he can source the parts for the timing belt, but doesn't know how much it'll cost, but I'm guessing it would be something like $300-$500.

Get quotes from repco/malz/supercheap for the belts.
Not sure if yours are the same, but mine is a GPX 95 auto and these are the parts:
T987 Gates Timing Belt 232 tooth x 30mm width
6PK1080 Power steering / air con belt
4PK940 Alternator belt
PU307034ARRID Koyo Timing Belt Idler Pulley
( PN: PU307034ARR1DW - exactly the same)
PU106218G Koyo Timing Belt Tensioner Pulley
(PN: PU106218FRRID - replacement but 1mm wider either side but fits fine with plenty of clearance)
Oil Filter. Z411 'Coopers' brand
Fuel Filter. Ryco part no Z441
Alternatively, get the kit from Camskill, UK.
Just need to wait for 1.5 weeks.

Okay, now, prices.
I was quoted:
$250 for spark plugs, parts/labour inc.
$270 for timing belt, labour, parts costs unknown
I'll probably get the fluids done by him too if I haven't already done so by then.
Are those prices sounding right? High? Low?
I'm guessing the entire service will cost close to a grand, but from what I've read that sounds about right.

Just for your infomation, this is the Dayco timing belt kit for my '97 GPX manual.

Cost: $230 from Burson Auto Parts. Note the belt have 226 teeth.
Labour for all these would be around $600 onwards.
if buying just timing belt alone, try Austral. Part number: T987. cost: $86.From AutoOne
but you need to confirm if your are using the same as a manual GPX.

Nope, I need a Mivec belt, which I'm having trouble finding kits for.
Although, is the rest of the kit the same between non mivec and mivec engines?

Ya, i bought the Dayco kit just for everything but the timing belt(226teeth) and its not for GPX. i have to buy the Austral for the correct belt (232teeth).

You are forgeting all the engine seals you get in the dayco kit.But i am not sure you would need them or not.

^ true story. hopefully the mechanic will have ones that fit, or if there is somewhere i can buy them from separately. Dont really want to buy the dayco kit just because the belt is useless to me(gpx).

Keen to break down your costs? I did sell the non mivec timing belt as it is pretty easy to sell.

dammit! i didn't think it would sell easy as most people with gr's would want the kit since they dont have to source the seals separately... Oh well, i suppose any mechanic should have a good quality seal that would be compatible for my gpx.
