Insurance for aftermarket steering wheels?

a friend of mine was saying last night, that if you have an aftermarket steering wheel (without airbags) and the car was produced stock, with airbags, your insurance company can refuse to pay out if you crash?
i'm not sure how true that is, so i thought i'd find out....
can anybody help me out here? cheers.

yip if you orginally had airbags gotta keep em
even if no air bags the aftermarket wheel still has to comply with australian standards

sweet, i'm safe without my airbags (so to speak)
