Contracting as a sole trader

Hey if i was to take a job as a contractor in I.T. and work under an ABN as a Sole Trader what else do i need to work? as in what ype of insurance and such?

For yourself, the obvious:
- Register for ABN, register trading name if required, otherwise personal name will do (good because its free)
- Register for GST if annual turnover is to exceed $50,000.

Insurance. None are compuslory, but are recommended:
- Public Liability
- Professional Indemnity
- Property and Equipment Insurance
- Income Protection Insurance

Some companies will actually require you to have some of those before employing you, others don't.

The other thing you have to look into is OHS.
Again not compulsory, but some companies will require things like Safe Work Method Statements or
OHS Green (now white) Cards depending on the work site. Query that on an employer basis.

but i work for ato!! i answer clients that question at least once a workday!! its in my scripting as well! :lol: LOL!! it used to be 50,000 but i forgot when it changed, i can find out though :lol:
