engine not holding pressure

hey guys, just recently purchased a 1996 non MIVEC FTO from the hail auctions here in Perth, all was looking good to get it re-registered until we took it to the mechanics, turns out the engine is not holding pressure...............great.....
It is not an external problem, it is apparently definitely internal.
It is either the heads are gone or the piston rings apparently.....overall i was quoted 4-4.5 grand to fix!!!!
apparently new heads cost $800 each, and if its the rings the engine needs a full rebuild.

Is there any other option I can take? can I fit a different new engine in it(lancer?magna?), are new heads that expensive?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
regards
~jake~

I guees you mean compression?

dont rebuild just put in another engine
$500-$1000

plus labour if you cant do it about another $800 give or take

much cheaper than rebuild

and Welcome to the club :D
