Ok, so Im mad right

I live in the suburb of Acacia Gardens (close to Quakers Hill, or Blacktown, or Kellyville depending on your geographical knowledge) and my internet connect is rubbish.
Not in quality, but in speed.

Im with iinet & have been for many years, so long in fact, I still have an ozemail email address circa 1993. They've looked after me very well over the years, fixed line problems
at previous addresses etc, just generally been good.

Now, Im fed up with my current "ADSL 2+" (and I use the term '2+' loosely) connection speed - I currently have a theoretical maximum of 2 Meg a second
Purely due to my distance from the exchange. Im exactly 4.5kms from the exchange at Quakers Hill. Im also 4.6kms from the Blacktown exchange, 4.65kms from the
Kellyville ridge exchange and 4.7kms from the Seven Hills exchange.... aka right in the f**king middle of all of them.

I've called all the major providers in the area tonight & not f**king one of them can provide a better service
I can't even get a cable connection from either Optus or *shudders* Telstra...

What do I do? I host dozens of bloody websites, have at least 15 PCs / Servers / laptops in the house doing various things & the best I can get is a f**ken 2meg connection????
Is it not the year 2010??? I refuse to wait another 50 years for the NBN, I need better service now!

Now that I've vented, any suggestions would be welcomed

Blow up your nearest exchange then they are forced to build a new one, with any luck you may be eligible for cable with Telstra and get the 100mbps connection

Explosives! Why didn't I think of that earlier!

Hang on... that'll f**k me up in the mean time... I'll be without connection for... oh I dunno... 50 years while telstra rebuild the exchange!

lol Also, have you tried a few different routers? I know some of the Billion items have a good rep for dealing with low quality line signals....so you could possibly gain a couple of hundred extra download kw's lol.

lol, yeah I have, but I try to keep to some sort of standard... aka a Cisco only shop.

Don't forget that when the NBN is finished, the OMGThinkOfTheChildren Filter will be running, so the speed will drop back to 14.4k anyway.

So out of this fruitful discussion, it would appear I have 3 choices... move, bury a repeater in the street, or buy a sattelite dish & launch my own satellite....

option 4.
make the FTO Party, take over the government and put in better net with no filters.

You might want to also ask your ISP if they would be willing to try you out on the old optimised 8 MB/s ADSL line for a while. ADSL2+ uses a higher frequency and is therefore more sensitive to noise, crosstalk and attenuation, so the old ADSL could make an interesting comparison.



Regardless of the what the graph above says, depending on who you ask, some people swear that for anything much over 3km/s away from the exchange you are best off dropping back to just ADSL. Might be worth investigating.

Yeah, that is actually one of the propositions Im going to look at.

The other one is bonded DSL.
