Hey all,

I have been having this soft brake pedal issue for two days now..not driving the car, as the brakes are hard when in P mode, but as soon as i drive it becomes too soft and hits the floor. The braking is crap as well.

I had done a brake fluid bleeding about 2 months ago and have topped the brake fluid in the master cylinder just to be sure.

Any ideas what could be the problem?

Also does anyone know of a good brake specialist in Melbourne? Really need the car back on the road, as I am moving houses in a few days..

Any visible leaks from either the calipers of the master cylinder?

If not, I reckon its gonna be shot seals in the master.

May also want to pull out & regrease the slide pins on the front calipers, they're notorious for seizing up.

Calipers of the master cylinder? Is the master cylinder the white resovoir which holds the brake fluid?

If so, I did not see any leaks there..but the fluid level was low..i topped that up and tried again..but the brakes were still flooring when turning on ignition...

I have to say that this happened after a very cold night (around 1 deg celcius)..

Would it be the brake booster? I read elsewhere that brake booster problems make the brake hard and not soft.

The master cylinder is the white resevoir which holds the brake fluid. It may even be as simple as requiring a bleed / fluid flush.

The booster unit will only make the pedal soft if you have an existing issue.

I think I found the culprit...checked all four wheel calipers..the front right caliper was moist and sticky...possible leak..
Have booked Lube Mobile for brake bleeding tommorow..will get the caliper rebuild as well..I don't have the tools with me atm, else I would have rebuild the caliper myself..looked online..doesn't seem that hard..

Yeah, she sounds like shes blown a seal in the caliper then. As you say, not too hard to do. If you got any problems finding the kit for it, just remember its the same caliper as used on the Evo II & III - sold locally in Aus

Any idea on whats a reasonable price to get one caliper (front right) reconditioned? The mech would give me a quote onsite tomm..just so that i don't get ripped off...
