Hey everyone, I've got HID's 8000K in my FTO but its not as bright as i thought it would be, probably because the globe in the head light is not clear, its kinda foggy....does anyone have HID's installed & if so, is it bright & which one is installed...it ranges between 3000k-15000k. Thanks.
Ben (DRFTO)

i have 8000k atm too, i reckon its alrite, but you can go for 10000k, and that would be the highest i would go, any higher = gg defect, so i recommend 10000k

mine are 8000k, and they are just fine.
have you tried adjusting the angle the head light is on?
my passenger side one looks like it's off most of the time because the angle it's on (too lazy to change it)
i honestly don't think the kevin rating is going to make it brighter or duller, it's just the colour isn't it? in fact i keep thinking that the 16000k (purple) are darker than mine... :S
someone correct me if i'm wrong

well i know theres 35w and 50w for HIDs, the 50w is brighter, but as borep said, the kevin rating doesnt make it brighter.

the lower the colour the whiter and BRIGHTER. The higher the number the more colour but duller. 8000k should be absolutely sweet, thats what I have for my low beams but make sure they are adjusted properly

Have a look in the manual it is there. I dont have a copy at work work but basically you park the car 1/2 metre away from a wall turn your lights on. The top part of the beam should be "x" high. I cant rememeber exact height but you need to take in consideration if your car is lowered. I'll have a look tonight if I get a chance.

the more kelvins the less brightness, i don't think 6000k is the brightest though stef, i think it is more the whitest, i know the 3000k's that im getting soon is brighter than all of those but it has yellow light. im not talking about stock yellow 4300k yellow, more like golden yellow.
And BJ, you mentioned something about fogginess? are you talking about the projector headlights that aren't clear ? thats normal, but if you're talking about the headlight external flaking off, then that needs a sanding job, which you can find a DIY for in the DIY section.

That would be awesome, also is the drivers side meant to be crossed over/angled towards the passenger?

Technically the drivers side light should point down towards the road maginally more than the passenger, to avoid blinding oncoming cars.

i am talking about when you have the car up against the wall, you should have them facing forward. When driving, the projector will aim them away from on coming traffic.

Okay well im pretty sure i got the low beam sorted, the passengers was lighting up koalas in the trees at night and the drivers was pointed too far down but straight ahead. Now the high beams

i got my little stumpy chode screwdriver out but it looks like ill have to take out the airbox lol.

Just reinstalled my HIDs today (had to take them out for VicRoads inspection). Spent ages and ages trying to find somewhere to mount the ballasts. But after taking out the pod filter and moving the power steering fluid I found 2 good places on the chassis and installed them in minutes (cable ties ftw).
Now when I plugged the HIDs in and tested them initially, they were so bright that it was blinding and I was pretty happy. But after actually putting them in the HB4 socket, because of the "cloudiness" of that headlight they are so much dimmer. They are still brighter then my old halogen globes but I think because of the housing of the low beam globe, it really kills the illumination
The housings I'm talking about are the X's if you can imagine this is the car front on. (x)(o)=====(o)(x)
When my current HID bulbs die I'm probably going to get HB3 bulbs (hi-beam) instead and just leave the X's empty... The hi-beam housing is just clear glass without that "cloudiness" so hopefully they'll be a lot brighter. Can anyone else comment on this issue? Maybe it's just me lol

Sounds like they arent adjusted properly or are crap HID's.
The cloudiness is just how the projectors look. Seriously the HID when you look DIRECTLY into them should blind you.

^^ yeah with projector having hid's under them, you have to bow down pretty low and then you see the blinding light, until that time you can hardly see light because of the 'cloudiness', its normal, its a safety feature pretty sure so the light only points on the road.
