The headlight bulb has blown in my Version R FTO and I can't see an easy way to get to the back of the unit. Do I have to take the headlight out to change the bulb?
any guidance apprciated!

Thanks Brent88 - but I think mine are a bit different, I have the GPvR with factory HID's. Still looks like the only was to get to the bulb is to remove the front bar and take the whole headlight out?

I've got a GPvR with aftermarket HIDs, and you can certainly change the bulbs without taking off the front bar.

depends what bulb was used and how it was mounted if it isnt a 9006 and its mounted under the bracket then the bracket will need to be removed ( dose that make sence )

Thanks for the replies - Guess I'll just have to get in there and have a go, not much room to even get a hand in there!

Just found a photo of the same type of headlight as mine - bulb I need to replace is inside the unit on the right hand side and looks like it can only be accessed by removing the back by undoing the 3 screws - not enough access to do this while fixed in car ?
Am I looking at this completely wrong? Help I think I'm going mad!
Hope the photo appears - not done this before!

Well I'm presuming it's the bulb - could be the ballast?

should be enough room to get a small screw driver in there to get the cap off move the air box and i think its the power stearing on drivers side might give you some more room and is a lot easyer then removing the front bumper
normaly lights dont have that cap

You have HID there should be able to remove unit via undoing 4x bolts using sockets failing that use a screwdriver bit adapter with socket to give you access without having to use full length screw driver

Found some good information on the Irish FTO site - looks like these units are longer than the after market HID's and the way to go is with the bumper off!
A fun job for next weekend I think.
Also seems to be a different bulb - Osram Xenarc 66040 D2S 35w. Haven't tried to find one here yet but that could be another challenge. Plenty available through ebay though for about $50 Aus plus postage.
Thanks for your help and replies.

i have a 97 gpvr. and had to put in new bulbs all round i think (cant remember why i needed to take out bulbs, either high beams, headies or parkers replace). but i remember i COULDNT, no matter what way i did it, i think i could replace 1 headlight on 1 side, but then i remeber there was something in the way of the 2nd 1. had to take front bumper off, not too hard, buut it does take an hour or so, and btw, i fit a pair of h7 hid bbulbs in there, i just trimmed the plastic rim around the HID base and fits perfectly and solid into it, just a heads up to people who have a pair of h7s hanging around. good luck mate
