What's the best way to get your paint looking brand new apart from a respray.

I have certain sections getting a bit dull and I'd like to save her before it gets worse.

p.s. it's scotia white.

polish it

if it's too far gone, then put up with it, or respray it. simple.

I should have been more specific, I have bought the cut and polish and used it on the bonnet.

It did an alright job with a manual buffing (sore arms) but if i got one of those electric ones would it bring up a better finish?

I just want to know if it's worth the money to buy one.

Have another can and harden the f#*k up lol
get stuck into it with some elbow grees, you will build up your arms at the same time
don't worry about getting a buffer, unless you are going to spend big $$$$ on one.

Eat a teaspoon of concrete and harden the f**k up ahaha

unless you have an arm of arnold, buffing by hand can never be as good as machine buffer. your hands are just not consistent and quick enough. lol
spend some money on different polish grades of liquid and use with buffer and it should work.

my scotia white is getting dull too....gona get a machine soon.

All jokes aside white is white there is not a lot you can do with it to get a high shine like you would with a coloured car.
I have polished a bad sundamaged car back to new by hand it's not that bad.
Just remember to do it in a cool shaded area and you don't need to rush it. One panel at a time.

same my car was orange when i bought it
the paint is now back to normal

you dont need a machine buffer. DO you have a power drill? If so then just buy the buffer attachment. Costs $15.

whatever you do .. if you get a buffer - don't press hard, it's not necessary! you'll only damage the paint.. let it only gently rest on the paint as it does its work

Thanks, that's a handy tip.

good idea. but try to figure out where you going to hold with both hands, cos its not ergonomically design to buff.

i thought that white paint took less sun damage than all other paint?
because it reflects the light instead of absorbing it?
i thought black paint gets the most damaged

i think i learned that in physics

I'm preety sure the amount of the Sun Damage wouldn't change on colour but your right about darker colours absorbing more there for getting hotter if left in sun...
.... Either way , if a cars been out for a long time no matter what colour it will be sun damaged. If not, your all sweet.

A black car and a white car left out in the sun will only have approx 3-5 degrees between them and that has been tested.
as for fading well its more noticeable on black, red and so on white will do the same you just find it hard to see it.

Make sure you get a foam pad and not a lambs wool attachment as the wool is too harsh.

Get yourself a random orbital with at least a 5mm throw for around $150 or less, a grey lake country pad for $30, and a bottle of AIO (all in one, get good brand like pinnacle or some shiz) for around $30.

Done.

Then start doing your mates car and collect beer money!

Doing by hand is fine, long as you have the patience. Your results generally won't be as good as by machine unless you've been doing it for years.

As for don't pressing too hard...well that depends what you're using. Drill with attachment, ROS, forced rotation or a rotary.

To the OP, if you wanna freshen it up yourself and properly and am new to detailing. Get a random orbital sander/polisher with min 5mm throw, decent brand and budget upto $200 for one and make sure it's 150mm.

Get two 6" lake country pads, the orange and the grey. Get two bottles of swirl remover/polish - one medium/heavy and one light/finishing polish.

Obviously do whole car with orange pad and heavy/medium compound, concentrate on dull spots. When done, change to grey pad and use light/finishing polish for whole car. When done, wash car carefully, dry, apply sealant, let cure, apply wax. Do it right and it'll look schmick - close-ish to a respray bar deep scratches/stone chips.

Screw hand polishing the worst.

Some what irrelevant, but I found the best way to get sticky sh*t off is using diluted eucalyptus oil, I've tried it on a couple of cars, and so far it's worked and doesn't strip any colour away. Also excellent for getting those annoying rego labels off glass.
