Hey guys!
I have been prowling carsales.com and Ebay for several days now in search of a replacement for my POS BMW, and I have not got much further than my original thought Lancer or FTO. I know I want a Mitsubishi, cos I <3 them.
I know you guys a probably a bit bias cos you love FTO's and all but I found this one on carsales.com
http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/pri ... 5FB12B4B8D
It's a group in Melbourne that gets Lancers in good running order but get them cheap due to crappy looking exteriors cuts them back resprays them, puts a body kit on them and clear tail lights and sells them off.
what do you guys think
the1 on site is gone but guy offered me 1 for 8k with roady and bkit and purple paintjob 2004 with 70,000kms
that sounds too good tobe true =but hopefully it isnt.
what gets me is howtheymakeaprofit, they obiously strip cars and make 1 out of 2,the guy said hecancustommake car 4 me (paintjoband kit customized tomy likeing any colour etc
heres a link to his actual site(sounds pretty professionalfor the service his offering)
www.customautocarsale.com.au
appreciate the help
its starting to be cliche but thanks
chantalle

Personally I wouldn't touch one, but that's probably because I have a thing against riced up lancers, they look hideous

hmm .. i'd be careful buying one like that ..
it's like putting lipstick on a pig .. if you know what I mean..
Usually they don't do anything mechanically to the car, just sapping on a bodykit & giving it a respray .. whatever car you decide on, just make sure you get it checked out mechanically first & there are threads on Lancer & FTO Forums for the most common issues to look for when buying one.
The only answer you're going to get on this forum is "Buy an FTO" .. sorry, but Lancers are boring ass family cars (that's fine if it's what your after though) if you want a car that will turn heads - you know what to do

i strongly advised chantalle to buy a fto but she obiously has her reservations about buying a car that sint even sold in aus and is expensive to get parts 4, she understands that fto's are muc better cars but even i cant say anytrhing bad about a 2004 70,000km 2004 lancer for 8k with a rw and if she wants bodykit of her choice and also colour. tghat sounds like a pretty sweet deal. obiously not my idea of a gr8 car but i can understand than for 8k a girl that dosent too fast would want a mitsu lancer with a 1.8l engine and a rw (very important in vic), evo style bkit that will confuse 97%of ppl and colour of her choice.............. i dont c any bad points obiously i have strongly suggested FTO's but u gotta c that she wont use all the power anyway.
anyway cant comment too much till i c what cond these lancers are in (the guy does em for a living)

FTO's aren't a car you buy if you're on a strict budget ..
insurance ain't cheap
parts are cheap if you know where to look, but mitsi aus rapes us ..

of course they do its the law of 'supply and demand'
either wy i have told her to check out this lancer and c whats its like, even if its ghood mechanically its gonna b the thinnest paintjob ever with a crappy repliuca bodykit. but realistically u cant even ghet a stock 04 model with a rw for that let alone colour want, bkit u want and if u wan pay extra u can get the tiptronic, or mod hood or fog lights. anyway up2 her id rather not b responsible for chantalles wrong right choices id just like to be the 1 who poinbts her in directiuons and let her make
up her mind.
a week and we will know where chantalle stands hopefully look at this 98 model scotia white gp r and the lancer and c what she can get 4 her money, definatly will keep updating
even if ppl want me gone i here to stay hehe(not suggest9ing that this is the case but im pretty opinionated and blunt in my delivery.

LOL, how do you even know its got 70000kms?
Whatever shop that is that is selling these deserves a medal for selling piece of sh*t lancers to ignorant people.
Everyone knows a fake evo, its so easy to tell. Lancers look like crap everyone has got one, noone gives a second look to a lancer with a bodykit even if its turboed.
It doesnt even come with rims, i bet they didnt even paint the engine bay, they probably just sanded back and bogged over the rust that its probably riddled with.
The ONLY way you know for sure is if you see the car before its been painted. And oh yea youll need to tack on another $1000 for rims and tyres. so basically your getting a POS lancer for $9000

This is would be the most sensible thing to do.
But we arn't all sensible otherwise we wouldn't be driving FTO's would we

We do it because we love them. So its completely up to you. We can't tell you which way to go, just choose whichever you prefer, and go from there!
EDIT: dont forget u need rwc & rego ontop of that dodgy looking lancer you linked.
Goodluck!

lancer comes with rw for the 3rd time nd i dont think a 70,000 km car thats an 04 model would have much rust....... i understand that lancers are cheapo jap cars for the aus market but chantalle likes them so its up to her

lol it comes with a legit roadworthy? Why would a 70000km have such bad fading on the paint that it would even need painting again?

I would have a guess here... And say they are accident vehicles that were repairable write off's .. They pick it up for a couple of grand .. Fix the damage, and respray it .. If the sills are damaged, I would say that is why the put the body kit on it ... To save the cost of having to fix it all ...
So .. In cases like this .. Buyer Be Ware... With that said though, my GSR/Evo project was listed as written off twice before I bought it ... Which is probably why the repairs were so dodgy on it ... But, I fixed it right ... Took it back to bare metal, and addressed all issues... Which is why it cost me close to 10k for a respray ...
Not everyone will wear that expense ...

i think if you checked the car out of revs etc it might come up clean .. as I understand it, if they pick up a wreck in QLD as a repairable write off they can take it to NSW without having to have it listed in the history as a repairable write off..
.. this is just what i've heard .. could be wrong

No, you arent wrong, that happened to me. We bought a very low mileage Mazda 2 with 1000km. Came up clear on revs, but when we tried to get warranty sorted, we found that the car had been written off in Victoria and transported to NSW. Because it was repaired in a different state it didnt show up on REVS.

Hi guys,
thanks for the advice, I was going to get the chassis and VIN number and check it out with REVS, however I didn't know that if they were brought in another state that they didn't have to be listed-thanks for the tip!
Plus I wouldn't be silly enough to just purchase something on face value, without a rwc just because I like the colour! I am aware of what damage there can be with written off vehicles, like warped chassis ect.
EDIT: I am by no means limiting my search to only a Lancer, I am still looking at FTO's, it was just one of several options.

that "custom auto car sales" seems like the car equivalent to "sumoto" in the biking world... all you motorbike riders would've heard about them and their fail stories?
just because they can give you a RWC doesn't mean its legit. if the people are genuine about selling you the car, they will let you take it to a mechanic of YOUR choice. don't be afraid to tell them EXACTLY what you want... i meant f**k it, cars are still being made.
