Hey guys, the problem is when I start the car after its cooled down a little bit, not hot not cold, it takes a while to get ignition.

the starter motor is good, recently reconditioned and turns the engine over.

I recently replaced spark plugs and coil packs(2nd hand coil packs thanks bennoz)

tend to agree but with age of these cars could also be fuel pump not holding pressure in lines anymore when car is off

ok, so its probably something 2 do with fuel... but what? there's still lots of different components that could cause this.

nd how do i fix the problem?

Check the errors codes. Could be shot 02 sensor.

Could be lots of things, but as ben says check error codes first.

SO your saying it starts perfectly when its either cold or at OT?

How long has this been happeing for?

Have you done anything recently to the car before it started doing this?

If you think it is losing fuel pressure (mine did that when I put on an aftermarket FPR) have a look under the bonnet at the bulkhead on the right hand side. Just above and to the right of the tubes for the heater matrix you will see a couple of electrical connectors. Connect the BLACK one to the positive feed for the battery and it will run your fuel pump remotely. Run it for a few seconds then try starting the car. If it works then it may be your fuel pressure regulator is not holding pressure very well and may need replaced soon.

nah just progressively got worse nd worse since i bought it.

nd ye starts fine cold and hot not in between, but ive started 2 notice now that on occasion in the morning when its cold it has about 3 goes at staring before it works and just before proper ignition there's a smaller ignition that doesn't start the engine.

Well, I am leaning towards fuel pressure reg, fuel pump or o2 sensor. In that order as most likely to least likely

I'm full of good tricks like that Ben, you should know that by now

It means that if you have worked on your fuel system, as I seemed to be doing constantly at one point in the search for a proper working FPR, you can test it for leaks without running the engine ;)

ok guys checked error codes 2day.

No errors, so this means it will be the fuel regulator right?

em so how do i go about fixing this fuel regulator? and could it possibly be fuel filter not regulator?

Fitting a new fuel filter will do you no harm at all, I noticed an improvement when the 130,000 MILE 8O filter was changed for a new one.

Changing the FPR is a doddle but it would ba an idea to try one from someone elses car to see if it makes a difference first.

After changing the fuel filter, which had been on for 130,000 miles, or 210,000 Kms, I noticed the car accelerated a bit smoother and had less of a flat spot.

But it must have been hard work for the pump getting the petrol through the old filter in the latter stages, I reckon it was just grateful for the help when I put a new one on

Well make sure you have a spanner which fits almost right round the nut as the one on the fuel line from the tank is realy soft and rounds easy. You get them from plumbers suppliers if you cant find one anywhere else.

And run the pump using the trick above before you start the car to make sure everything is fuel tight.

And when you stand back and say "ferchrissake that was a bitch" dont light a fag up 8O
