'No apology' from police as speed cameras go undercover for first time

Covert speed cameras will be deployed on Queensland roads for the
first time from Thursday, coinciding with the traditional Easter
holiday break. Descriptions of the three unmarked vehicles containing
the hidden cameras are such closely guarded secrets that not even the
Police Minister knows what they look like. The only clue authorities
are releasing today is that they could be any make or model, rather
than from the well-known fleet of 40 speed-camera vans and 4WDs.

We first learn't of this information earlier in the week, however in
an effort to keep our informants anonymous we have kept tight liped
until now. However, the "closely guarded secrets" aren't all that
secret anymore as we release the vehicle types which will be used as
unmarked speed cameras throughout Queensland. No apology either.

Unmarked Speed Camera Vehicles

3x Ford Falcon BA Utes (White)
3x Holden VZ Utes (White)
1x Volkswagen Golf (not a GTI)

It should be noted that the utes are all white in colour with white canopies.



Be careful over the easter holidays as it will be double demerits and
most importantly, be safe.

Victoria has had unmarked camera cars for a bazillion years, good to see Queensland have finally caught up .

The QLD State gubment must need more monies.

Just so you know, Queensland does not have double demerit points and has not done so for years.

Yeah I just saw an unmarked cop car with 3 policemen in it...it was a Toyota Sportivo....

Yeah, I had a lime green ute come up behind me at a set of lights in Canberra a couple of days ago. Took me a second or 2 to work out what the bits and pieces bolted to the dash were. Flashing light unit, radar etc. They are getting sneaky.

Pretty sure I saw a similar car with disco lights on the dash this morning.. but the weapon of choice up here is the Toyota Aurions

We have had undercover cars for aged just not unmarked speedcameras.

Similarly, unmarked mobile speed cameras to be on Sydney roads by July this year. The problems I have with this are:

1. They make the Govt a hell of a lot of money, but how much of it is actually spent on road safety?
2. You don't receive the fine until up to 6 weeks later - any behavioural theorist will tell you this is bad because the punishment is not associated with the infringement (too long ago, might not even remember it happening)
3. As a nation (on average, don't take it personaly) we are incompetent drivers. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is being done to make people better drivers.
4. The operation of these cameras will not be the responsibility of the police. Very shortly (if not immediately) the operation of these cameras will be outsourced to a private contractor who will receive a percentage cut of every fine issued. Therefore, their sole motiviation is to write as many infringments as possible, irrespective of common sense.

I completely agree with the comments Mark Webber made on the weekend; Australia is turning into a nanny state with incompetent governments that are only interested in increasing revenue to disguise the fact that they are even worse at managing spending and the economy.

might i add that yes they get paid by the hour BUT the whole quota system they have running is not to boost income for the officer but instead officers who meet their quota gain better working conditions eg. being assigned to a better area.

saw it on a documentary not long ago with cops turning against management
