Is it worth fighting one of these? Got a letter from SDRO wanting $338 and lost 3 them pts. Also got my letter for license suspension from when I got booked speeding on Anzac bridge ages ago. argh!

I guess I cant do anything about the license (motorbike) but is it worth fighting the red light camera? Im thinking not..

Usually pointless to fight a red light camera .. Unless you know you were 100% in the right, and the camera went off in a spasm .. But very rare for this to happen ...

Was the bike fine by a mounted camera, or did you get pulled over... :?:

an interesting thing that i do not do or condone or have ever attempted to do is to make it look like you are sneezing as you go into them and then claim you were having a sneezing fit if u get caught and that you didnt see the light change

was talking to a mate bout this and he got off his cause a semi was behind him pushing him threw so he had no choice bt yea rarely would you get off it unless u make up some bullshit bout some one braking and holding trafic up and u slowing down but then they wil be like well u shouldnt have crossed the intersetion but if your gona protest get a copy of the picture ( always good to have as a extra pic lol ) but basicly not many fines get off threw state det i used to work for them in the call centre man that was a sh*t job cop abuse all day lol

Correct .. You can get off for situations that would have been dangerous to stop ...

Also like if someone was riding your @ss in the wet, and you didn't want to cause them smashing into the rear of you...

But, there would also be the truck going through the red light camera, or evidence of the truck from the photo ..

Depends Steve.

Be honest with yourself... did you think you were gonna make it, and then didn't? If so, suggest you save your energy and cop it on the chin.

If you genuinely believe you were not at fault, it is always worth a try... but I wouldn't go into that long (and it will be long, probably expensive too) process unless you're 100% sure in yourself.

Just some common sense advice :)

When I think of challenging fines, I always ask myself, how much is this gonna cost me? Ie a full day off work + court cost etc.

I love how they have worked it out to ..... Fine you enough that it hurts but not enough to be bothered to fight it

+1 what simon said. RTA have road safety so so wrong. The skew towards revenue raising would be comical if it weren't so serious.

Some thing also to remember from about two weeks ago red light cameras are now also speed cameras. They have been testing them for about two months befor that so they are in full swing now.

ahh yes, finding more ways to rape the wallets of commuters

Hopefully it at least reduces intersection accidents, sounds more like they did it for revenue raising though

Wow so many replies.

The re dlight ticket was for February the 4th. I was on my way to uni at 714am and dont have a clue about how long it was yellow for or what not. I didnt even know there was a red light camera in that spot. Probably wont fight it as I have no recollection of that morning.

The speeding ticket I was pulled over for as I was building up momentum to get up the hill on the Anzac bridge (stupid two stroke lack of torque) and pased by a sus looking red commodore with real dark windows. As soon as I passed the car I knew it was a cop but by then it was too late. They pulled me over on Victoria rd not far after and I was 23km/h over.

Ouch on both cases ...

Mate, my advice is cop a 3 month suspension for using up all your demerit points and start again ... Neither are worth fighting ...

Yeah, drive up to the 20th, then lock it all away .. If you can't trust yourself then either give away the keys, or lock away the bike...

I will probably park it behind the car and chuck the bike cover over it.

Good idea..

I have a friend that is going through a suspension at the moment.. She copped 3 months cause she used up all her points on her green P's ... She tried to fight it, as she was due for her full licence before she got booked, but was just to lazy to go to the RTA ...

Court says no ...

So she got the 3 months, which ends just after Easter.. She pretty much use to drive in and out of work every day .. But, even to her, the time has gone quick ... She has been tempted to just duck down to the shops, but has resisted... We have another friend that is banned from Driving to 2014 cause he got caught driving a couple of times without a licence... Even had to do Community Service... Which we thought he was going to gaol .. Cause we drew a hard arse judge...

But with a few good references, and a good solicitor, he only had to do 200 odd hours community service... But, it is still a conviction, as you are basically given an inmate number.... So his career in finance can be hindered by this....

So, this is why I say ... Learn from these story's ... And if I catch you driving anything, I will bitch slap you as well ...
