How to confirm if car has 3 point immobiliser?

- the gpvr I just bought doesn't have an alarm. The keys came with a rectangle unit which opens/closes the doors.
The previous owner says the car has an immobiliser, but doesn't know if it's 2 or 3 point. For my insurance cover, I don't need an alarm, all it needs is a 3 point immobiliser.
Can someone please tell me how I can confirm this (that there is an immob and that it's 3 point) Where do I look? Is there a unit that should be stuck in the engine bay?
Can I check the 3 points (what r they)?
Thanks

Do you use your original key to access the car? If so, I highly doubt it has an immobiliser... They have to be removed when the car is imported, and you will notice that your key has an area where something has clearly been scraped off it. That's where the code for the original immobiliser was.
If you don't have an alarm, one easy way to check if your car has an immobiliser is to lock the doors with the windows down, reach in and try to start your car. If it doesn't start, it's immobilised.

Or to make it easy you could just lock the doors while sitting in the drivers seat and try to start it. Lol.
.. I would only do this as when i lock my doors my windows go up.

Haha I'm so dumb. I have this amazing habit of making things more complicated than they have to be!

Think he is trying to confirm if its 3 point which should mean 3 stage immobiliser......
-starter immobiliser
-fuel pump cut
- batery power cut
To find out you will need to see what brand alarm it is and research or trace back all its wiring

Does it have to be 3 point? Which insurer is this?
If so, you're only real decent choice is the Mongoose M80.
To give you an idea on costs, I just had an M60 installed (the model below the M80, with a 2 point immobiliser) with the alarm for $550. Just the immobiliser without the alarm would have been $450.
I probably could have gotten it slightly cheaper, but that's a pretty average cost really.

thanks, I'm with Famous, yes, has to be 3pt immob, no need for alarm. I got a quote from the guy I usually go with, 3pt with alarm for $450 don't know what brand though.
I was hoping for something cheaper, but sounds like the quote I have is ok. I'll keep looking for options during the weekend.

I doubt it would be anything other than Mongoose. If so, then sounds like a great price

Why is a Mongoose unit his only option? Plenty of reputable brands make immobilisers and alarms that conform to Australian standards, such as Python, Viper and Cyclops to name just a few.
How about not giving advice to impressionable newcomers relating to subjects you are clueless on?

Haha something up your ass, Pete?
I never claimed to be a specialist on car alarms. I simply suggested that the Mongoose was a good option, taking into account my recent experience with having an alarm installed and the fact that the multiple places I called around to recommended Mongoose above all other brands, and in fact didn't even stock any other brands.
FFS, you yourself probably agree in the back of your mind, but for the sake of being a confrontational and argumentative prick, you decided that you would boast your amazing technical knowledge on products that don't even appear to be as widely available as a Mongoose, nor in a reasonable price range, as specified by lol0888
Just a suggestion, pull your finger out mate

So, a couple of places you called, that do not stock any other range of alarms aside from Mongoose, told you that they are the best brand to go with?
We do not stock Alpine at WOW. Have a guess what I tell the average customer when they ask me if I think they are a brand worth looking at?
No, I am not thinking in the back of my mind that you are actually correct in making the ridiculous assumption that you have. Plenty of other brands exist that make immobilisers and Mongoose is definitely not the cheapest.
So, I stand by my statement about you giving advice on subjects you clearly lack knowledge on. You stated in your first post that Mongoose is the only brand worth considering, which is a completely falsified fact based on your self admitted, limited experience in the purchasing and installation of these types of systems.
Also, cheers for the primary school insults and name calling as well. I was not being aggressive in my argument towards you, however I was making a frank judgment on your knowledge levels relating to the matter at hand. Chill out.
On topic:
As I stated previously, there are plenty of options out there. I'm not sure where you're located, but my recommendation would be head around to a few stores such as WOW, JB, Auto Bahn etc. to get a few quotes. If you're tight on cash, don't jump at the 'amazing' deal the salesperson at the first store you visit offers you. If you have the time, use it to shop around and consider the specifications and advantages of the different brands and units available.
