Hey everyone :)

im driving a 1994 FTO GR,
my altenator is slowly breaking down and im searching for a replacement!
i called up a few shops in perth and they tell me that they only sell gpx altenators......so i was wondering, do the gpx ones work in the gr model? or does every model have a specific altenator?

thanks for you help :D

Im pretty sure the GR alternator is 2 pin and the GPX is 4 pin

Search is your friend though!

You can fit the GPX alternator to the GR BUT the GPX alternator is 4 pin while the GR is 2 pin. There is an adapter you can get but if you are not too fussy I believe you can just hack apart your 2 pin connector and just connect to the 2 matching terminals on the 4 pin alternator leaving the other 2 of the 4 pins unconnected.

OR

I bought one of these last month.

thanks for your answers everybody :)

but i still have a few questions!

does it mean i have to destroy the connector?
And the wire harnesses are pretty short, how do i connect them if i destroy the connector?
how do i know what 2 pins are the right ones?
do you know any diagrams or something?

i had a look on the internet but couldnt find much unfortunately. so im pretty desperate

check out the electrical diagrams in downlods section to the left

Just extend the wires when you change plugs but really it shouldnt be hard to get another alt i have a spare GR one but keeping it incase mine goes

This ^

To my understanding they cannot be swapped at all. The 4 pin alternator has its voltage goverened by the ECU, the standard 2 pin alternator does all its own voltage regulation within.

Why not take it to an auto elec to change? I got mine removed, rebuilt and reinstalled for $260.00!
