Hey, after searching for a while i cant come up with a definitive answer, sorry.

It has come time for my beloved fto to get its timing belt changed.

However i cant find one for a GPX, Bursons and a local car parts shop only get a listing for a 226 teeth belt not the 232. I was wondering if any one knew the exact part no. for a gates, dayco or other aftermarket belt? or if anyone has one spare they could sell me that would be even better ha

And can someone confirm me that the waterpump from the galant fits even on the MIVEC model?

And is it really worth doing the tensioner? Its only done 123,XXXkm's well i think thats what it has done, well hope that it has done lol.

waterpump is same as galant in fact as all 6a motors.

you dont have to change hydrolic tensioner only if its worn, test it by putting a wall (brick or concrete etc) and push on it, if pin moves more than 1mm than replace, or if it looks corroded or leaks etc, but do replace the idler and idler tensioner

Absolutly, no point changing the belt if you dont changed the pulleys.

Thanks guys, im not attempting it myself i just want to buy all the parts so that i can get a mechanic shop to change it. One place quoted me $1900 to do it all with genuine parts. And even the labour was expensive. Does anyone know any good places or would like to accompany me to a place where i could get it done cheap?

Ive heard a lot about that rick and james (sorry couldnt remember the 2nd one) Mechanical place in Southport, but that is a bit of a drive as i live in toowoomba, however i wouldnt mind if they got it done that day, if thats even possible.

So i gotta purchase:

Gates timing belt
Water Pump
Idler and Tensioner (parts no??)
New Pulleys?

basically just get a timing belt kit will come with everything apart from waterpump and hydrolic tensioner which you may or may not need...

as for mechs sure another member near your area will help you with that

As per above you will need;
T987 Gates Timing Belt
PU307034ARRID Koyo Timing Belt Idler Pulley (I was supplied PN: PU307034ARR1DW which I believe is now the replacement for the above - exactly the same)
PU106218G Koyo Timing Belt Tensioner Pulley (I was supplied PN: PU106218FRRID - again replacement for above but 1mm wider either side but fits fine with plenty of clearance)
Get the pulleys from a bearing joint. Will save u a third the price! And they are what you will get from Mitsubishi anyway...

Actually guys i actually took a look behind the cover and it had stamped ontop of the belt Gates THD powergrip? Is that the T987? Or is that the standard mitsubishi belt? Might not have to do the belt after all phew!

Yeah bit of a tip for everyone who doesn't already know this, whenever you pull apart anything with bearings or seals always document the brand and model number. All Jap cars use Koyo or NSK or similar bearings, and mostly all NOK seals. Write down the number, ring your local bearing joint and save a fortune!

If its a Gates belt, then its previously been replaced Mitsubishi use Mitsubishi belts.

CBC Bearings in Artarmon are also pretty good.
