I was washing my car this morning and when I started on the drivers side mirror it clean fell off. Upon further inspection here's what it looks like:

As you can see the screws that hold the mirror in place have split in two. At first I thought someone must have knocked it off i carpark or something and just put it back in place, but there are no marks on the mirror that would suggest this.

Any ideas how it might have happened?

But more importantly any ideas how to get the bits of screw left in the door out?

Must have just been fatigued. Can happen sometimes. Lucky the car was stationary at the time. If you were moving that could have made a nice mess of your paint. Anyway, what you are going to have to do is drill a pilot hole through the middle of the screws. You can then buy a special tool to remove the bolt thread. I forget what they are called, but basically you jamb them into th hole you have drilled and screw the remaining bits out. I would think there would be a good chance that your standard autobahn etc should stock them. Just tell them what you are trying to do and they should be able to point you in the right direction

I had a feeling it would involve doing that, I'll have to go grab a screw extractor I think thats what they are called.

Yeah definitely glad it didn't happen while i was driving.

Thanks Dstocks
