Same problem here :(
Mostly when it's cold, the way I get it to go away is start it up 1-2 times more, or rev up to 7000rpm in 1st gear while driving.

Just sounds like tappets, try an oil change and see if that helps as it's one of the cheepest options to finding the problem.

You guys got GR's? If so, when doing your next oil change, run some engine flush through before refilling. If they are cold only when noisy, then chances are they are just a bit gummed up & a flush can cure that.

Mine has a GR engine I'm pretty sure (no MIVEC)
Done a completel oil flush and refill still the same problem. How much will a mechanic charge to replace all taplets?

Yep if its going it after 5 minutes or randomly oil seems to be stuffed.

Next change try some Nulon E20 oil additive works a treat on old lifters.

Or get the tappets changed.

ahah i might just dump a new engine in then might be cheaping if they allow trade in on motors that are working with only tappet problems

Why do that when the motor you put in could have the same problem?

Bought a fresh set from Kempys for $500 & did 'em myself.

I'd try an engine flush first. The most common problem with them is sticking due to poor oil maitenance, the oil then cooks onto them & sticks in them. A flush will clear that up & free them up.

$500 dollars seems alright so you reckon changing instead of swaping motors

Bennoz if right.... its a common problem changing the engine to the same one is not gonna solve the problem.... I had that problem its like the oil pump is lazy so the oil takes a while to reach up in the head... so the taplets claps until the oil riches inside them...

well now I have upgraded to the 6a13 i really dont recall hearing that sound......
