Bad Luck

Hi guys,

It seems true that bad luck comes in three or even more :cry:


No 1. Oil seals were leaking. I've just changed the timing belt 2 years ago and the car has just done 30,000km since then.

No 2. Found the front sway bar has snapped.

Took it to mechanic, changed all five seals, timing belt, water pump, pulleys and front sway bar.

Yesterday, the mechanic called to pick up the car.


No 3. The exhaust note has changed 8O , now it sounds like a subaru's.

No 4. I could hear a whining sound when it's idle and it goes louder on acceleration.


Asked the mechanic why it's whining, he said it's normal after timing belt change and it will go away after a while.

Is it true or the mechanic has just F**KED my baby? :cry:

Anyone knows the address for IS Motorsport in Rockdale or Ricol in Peakhurst?
Might go and see one of them tomorrow and hopefully they know what's wrong with it.

Timing slightly off.... Belts should never make noise..... I changed mines and the car sound the same as before.....


The exhaust sound could be a loose screw by the exhaust piping out the muffler blown...

Hi guys, appreciate your helps.

I notice that it revs up a bit slower than before.
When I rev it up, the whining sound gets louder and my exhaust note does not sound right as well.
It's a bit hard to explain :oops: I'll try and get a video of it later on today.

I reckon they put the belt on a tooth out on one of the cam gears. I'd be right back in the garage throwing a tantrum.

That kinda sounds like t he CAMS is rubbing against the covers.... if thats the case it going to eat though that cover in no time.....

take it back and scream a bloody storm.....

let them remove the cover and see it the sound suppresses ....

and let them double check the timing.....

did the remove the engine to change the belt???

that could contribute to the loud exhaust sounds...

let them recheck everything.....

I was gonna suggest alternator whine at first but AFTER watching that video its definitely the timing belt. They did not install it properly or may have possibly used the wrong one. I reckon you shouldn't drive it just to be safe. Get them to tow it to the shop and amend the problem, should be under warranty of course so no charge.

I'd be very pissed off if it was me :evil:

the cams wont be rubbing unless they forgot the camcover gasket.

but it definatly sounds like the timing is out, id be really cautious about running the car, you cant crank the engine 360 degrees and get the cams to line up, id say they were a crank short.

if you can, check it yourself, otherwise youll be looking at forking out more money, and they will fix it, but never admit thats what the problem was.

Mine sounds exactly likw what you describe after timing belt change and it will go out after awhile. Its fine.
