FTO AUSTRALIA

I have recently had a new 2.5'' exhaust fitted to the FTO and some I put some new Bosch Platinum plugs. I went from Bisbane to Gladstone last weekend and I got a nice surprise....735km on a tank of fuel. Dont know if I should credit it to the exhaust or the new plugs but either way it's money well spent. Off the top of my head thats around 8.2L/100km

Yeah I replaced all six plugs. They are Bosch Platinum plus, part number FR7DPX. I got them from Supercheap for $38.99 and they even had them in stock.

Highway driving means you get a lot more k's out of the car also. This is cos you are at a constant speed most of the time with limited braking and stop/start traffic. I got about 600km (if i remember correctly) from a drive to forster. And even better, i got back to sydney on a quarter of a tank.

Um... think you should look into that mate! 700km on a tank is about right for me on the open road. More if I drive like a granny.

im pretty sure it's my oxy sensor but i haven't had time to check it out

i guess it really depends, i drive a lot of city style driving and mivec a fare bit and still manage 450+kms which under the circumstances isnt bad

Yeah I am about the same.. I give her a bit and get the same k's..

200 to a tank is bad.. My Lancer is turbo + running rich on 10 psi and it get more then that.....

Wow. I went to Dubbo this weekend to see a mate and I read this post last night and thought how unbelievable this fuel consumption was, but after getting back today it definitely seems possible with granny style highway driving.

I filled up in Bathurst this arvo after doing 550km and with the gauge reading just below 1/4 remaining. The car only took 41L. That's 7.4L/100km...So if my life depended on it and I had to run the tank dry these figures suggest the car would make it 815km. Although I would be too scared to try.

I reckon BP Ultimate and Denso IK22's all round would be part of the secret to these figures as well.

dont rely on your fuel gauge lol 1/2 a tank isnt 25 lts in reality, just run it out one time and put 25 lts in and see where the gauge reads. and also depends how far you fill it, like right up to the filler cap, and i think there is an overflow tank somewhere.
also, petrol pumps arent 100% accurate either.

lol, I'm well aware of that mate.
I was only mentioning the gauge reading for interests sake.

I filled it up to overflowing before I left (most bowsers seem to just overfill my tank before they cut out), and did the same again after the drive. So the figures are as accurate as the pumps are....which I bloody well hope are fairly well accurate lol.

BTW - FTO's have 60L tanks so 25L is definately not going to read half lol

are you sure its a 60 lt tank? i dont think mine has ever taken more than 50.

also, i have filled a 15 lt jerry can and its been 17 lts on the bowser. jerry can is plastic and has 15 lt mark.
and my ute is dual fuel with 50 lt gas tank and bowser said 52 lts and it wasnt empty. dont think they aren't screwing us. i know petrol changes volume with temperature also, story on tv about hot petrol being sold, 50 lts goes in hot but only 48 ish when it cools down. they have thought of everything.

Jamie, you're burning too much fuel. I can do Rockhampton to Brisbane on a single tank :p.

The tank is 60 litres but your fuel gauge only shows 50 litres thus giving 10 spare to get to the nearest servo. 5-10 litres not showing on the gauge is common.

About a year ago I was getting 550km per tank on most weeks with a mixture of city/highway driving. These days Im lucky to get 450km out of a full tank.

May need spark plugs, new o2 sensor, etc... Not too sure because I recently did a basic service and it didn't change the economy much.

O2 sensors should be changed every 80-100K.

I get 500k form my turbo, it used to 630 with piggyback installled and 530 after i replaced the o2 sensor.

It was only doing 370 before i replaced the o2.
