hey guys. i did a tappet adjustment on the weekend as per work shop manual. after refitting everything i started it to find it was revving over 4000rpm?????
thought possible the throttle position sensor. my partners old man came over while i was at work and played with the stepper motor. now it's reving to 4000rpm then cutting down to 3500rpm continually :x any ideas???
thanks guys.

didn't disconect battery. i disconected the sensor and reconnected while accesories was on. then fully opened and closed the butterfly hoping that would reset the sensor. will try the battery now. if that doesn't work i'll get a new sensor. either way i'll let you guys know the outcome. thanks.

Doubt it will be the TPS. From memory removal of the intake manifold requires you to take off the throttle cable? You sure its tensioned right? Also did you have a play at the idle screw? How about an intake manifold leak? That can cause a high idle.

Im with payaya on this one sounds like incorrect cable adjustment/connection.

Stepper seems to be working sweet though lol

didn't disconnect the accelerator cable. was going do adjust the idle but it hasn't been moved from where it was before all this so figured i could rule that out. besides how much adjustment could there possible be an idle adjusting screw?? as for vacume leak i can't find any. lets see what tomorrow brings. thanks for all the thoughts though. keep them coming.

There is heaps of adjustment in the idle screw. It so easy so you should have tried it to begin with.

What procedure did you use to determine there was no leak?

figured out how to get the car into diagnostic mode and it is the throttle position sensor. anyone know how to reset this or even the whole ecu?

The TPS is adjusted from factory and if you wanted to adjust the TPS you physically have to move the TPS. I still don't think its your TPS.

Have you disconnected your battery? That will reset the ECU.

Loosen the throttle cable as much as possible behind the inlet manifold, and see if it still revs high.

+1 leave batt off for 15min
to adjust tps just loosen the two screws and move the TPS but as payaya said try throttle cable first
