Intake Manifold....and also Ignition Leads

Hey Guys,

I'm planning on replacing the front and rear bank of spark plugs in the next week or so,but I just realised that my whiteline strutbrace looks pretty damn close to the intake manilfold etc.

I'm guessing taking the strut brace off would make the job easier, however I was wondering if anyone with a front strut brace has removed the intake manifold before? Is there usually just enough room to take it off? I think I've got about 4-5cm to play with.

You'll need to remove it, but not all together. Just undo one of the socket head screws on one end of the strut brace & angle it up. That'll give you the clearance you need.

Yeh yeh, what a retard. Blonde moment, my bad. I was remembering how hard I found it to remove the strut bolts the first time and didn't even think about the obvious fact that I woudn't need to touch them again. Anyway, thanks for the answer Bennoz.

Also, as I'm about to change the plugs, I was thinking about whether I should bother to change the ignition leads as well while I am at it. What are peoples thoughts on the ignition leads like the 8mm Magnecor ones? Is there any noticable benefit gained from using them?..because they're not exactly cheap.
The leads I have at the moment are looking a bit old so I was thinking I might just do it anyway.

I will only replace if required. Mine are over close to 200k and they are fine.

Yeh fair enough. But how would you know if your leads are working well and don't have failing conductivity etc? I'm sure the stock leads could "last" a lifetime, but surely after 100k+ they must be getting towards the end of their best days.

A lot of people seem to have the magnecor leads, so I would like to know if anyone recommends them, and if anyone has noticed any usefull improvements after installing them.

I'm having a set of 8mm Magnecor leads installed tomorrow, along with 6 NGK Iridium spark plugs and various seals to remedy some oil leaks on my GPX.

I'll do a write up tomorrow night detailing the changes I feel, if any.

Yeah Magnecor leads are good. You wont get any noticeable benefit thou, they are more of a preventative modifcation. Ensures the spark will always get there.

How did your service go?
