Hi All,

I am new to this forum and need some advice from veterans. I am about to self service my 95 GR Auto FTO(by following DIY) and need information on the type of fluids that need to be changed. I have searched the forum and found the oil thread(which was very informative). I am going to try the Royal Purple 10W40 Engine oil and Cooper oil filter. Is there any other oils/fluids that need to be flushed/changed on a AUTO GR? Is there a DIY for flushing and changing power steering fluid?

I would also like to know, how to visually inspect and find out whether 100K service has been done. My odo stands at 120K and i do not have previous logs of the vehicle. How can I check whether the major service was done?

The power steering fluid flush is quite easy. It is detailed in the FTO workshop manuals.

The way I did it is was as follows:
1) (Optional) Open the PS container under the bonnet, put your finger in, turn and remove the filter and then as much liquid as possible (siphon works great).
2) Raise the front of the car up. Both front wheels should be up in the air.
3) Remove the bottom hose of the PS container, this is the return hose for the PS fluid.
4) Attach a hose to the disconnected return hose and place the other end in an waste catch can or bucket.
5) Rotate the steering wheel left and right until no more fluid is coming out. (I ended up rotating the wheels rather than the steering wheel)
6) (Optional) Remove the PS container and give it a good clean
7) Reconnect the return hose removed in step 3) and the filter.
Start pouring in Dextron 3 ATF fluid (a 1L bottle is plenty)
9) Rotate steering wheel, the level should drop.
10) Repeat steps 8-9 till the PS fluid level remains unchanged.
11) Start the car and repeat step 10.
12) Stop the car, lower the front back down.
13) Repeat step 11.
14) Go for a drive and check your levels when you return.

Other things to check while you are there are:
ATF fluid / filter
Fuel filter
The 2 fan belts
Brake fuild
Coolant

The biggest thing changed in the 100K service is the timing belt and all the things that go along with it like the water pump. Easiest way to tell would be the condition of the timing belt.

Best bet is the Mitsubishi SPII ATF. It is the cheapest.

Failing that, most brands now have an SPII compatible ATF. I went with this one from supercheap. http://www.nulon.com.au/products.php?pr ... sion_Fluid

You are after about 9L.

9L of ATF? I read on the oil thread, about 4.4 L is more than enough for Auto Transmission oil? I am confused between ATF and Engine oil

Ignore my last post..I figured out the difference...too much oil information reading the oil thread...

4.4L is engine oil
9L is ATF

(1L brake fluid, 5L coolant)

I thought Automatic transmission only had 2 or 2.5L of fluid?

Closer to 4 if all you do is drain it, but when completely flushed they take a sh*t load more in all of the hydraulic galleries (if that's the name, auto box internals aren't my thing at all). That's why most big workshops have a fluid flush machine for auto trans.
