ok guys, here's a curly one.
while trying to undo a wheel lock-nut that was burred / worn, i had to hammer the key onto the nut. it seem like the hammer pushed the stud backwards and now it just spins.
question is, can i somehow get the wheel off? maybe take the disc rotor off at the same time??
help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

alright so your saying nut is still on stud and they are both just turning?
it will be a dam mission to remove calliper to remove disc with wheel on unles you have very big rims
so you either need to be able to try to retighten the nut so the stud can come back onto the spline which may be be difficult
get the oxy on the nut and damage rim
or just take to it with a small chisel and break nut off
or you may have just snapped stud anyway which will mean it wiil just come off when you remove wheel
good luck

Thats what I'd be doing, the cold chisel hit.

well, the rim is stuffed anyway, so i think i'll just cut the rim off the wheel with a saw through the spokes, i'll deflate the tyre 1st.

Look if you can't get to it with a cold chissel then just get a drill and drill out the stud through the wheel nut. that's going to be a hell of a lot easier than cutting the wheel apart.

its a hardened locknut with a square section in the center. and also, because it's loose it will just spin if i try to drill it. but thanks anyway, i will take pix when i cut it off. i got a recip. saw with a nice coarse blade, should cut alloy like butter. lol

f**k mate, you are a mad man, I would have just welded a $10 breaker bar to it and broken the bastard off with a jack or something...

you still have to get that nut off that stud somehow. so you haven't gained anything by cutting the wheel in half.
to stop the nut spinnig just jamb a screw driver between the wheel and the rottor. And you can drill those wheel nuts, just use a low speed drill and cutting oil to cool the drill point.

remember, the wheel was broken before i did this. if you look at the 1st pic you can see a section of rim missing.
cant get a cold chisel into the wheel because of the shape of the wheel around the studs, and i kinda like my left hand in one piece, i hate broken knuckles !!! lol
cant weld anything onto it either, it just spins, the nut and the stud both spin together.
cutting the rim off allows me access to the backside of the rim so i can work on it, nothing else,

finished the job today, wasn't as hard as i thought. took the brake caliper off, then the hub nut and pulled the bearing hub and disc assembly off in one piece.
the reason the nut was seized in the 1st place was it was the wrong nut, the nut had bottomed out on the stud and wasn't touching the wheel. there was a 1 mm gap between the wheel and the disc, which allowed me to get a hacksaw in between and cut the stud.
the hardest part was getting the tyre off the rim, i had to cut the lip off the rim with an angle grinder, then lever the tyre off with screwdrivers. no swearing and no injuries, just persistance and brain power.

I had something similar happen to a previous car I used as a daily. Never went to those extremes though, it just took a lot of prying and brute force. It turned out to be the wrong nut as well.

i could get a hacksaw inbetween the hub and the disc rotor and cut the stud.
couldn't drive it, no rego, so bob jane wasn't an option.
