It's essentially designed for larger audio systems that require a lot of capacity for power.
Having one of these inline with your amp(s) is said to eliminate clipping, which at high volume can cause premature failure to your speaker.

These cause a lot of debates though, much like Pod filters.
So, it's one of those things you either want, or dont.
