Has anyone here fitted their MIVEC with cams?

If so, what does it go like?

*smiles* I don't know of anyone who has, but that's probably going to be my next mod =)

I need to get a new ECU though first, and I'll probably rip the whole engine out so I might as well do the whole engine.

Ie, I'm putting it off till I'm more financially settled =)

what are the benifites from "porting the heads" what exactly is done, and once i pull out my "heads" is it easy to do ?? Does the incrased power decrease over time ?

porting is not a DIY job, there are special tools for grinding and smoothing out the ports on the head, so leave it to the professionals... it is sorta like 'enlarging' the ports to promote better airflow. Mechanics usually do a flow test first as a benchmark and from there and they apply complicated formulas for calculating how much porting is required.

lol its not like im going to take the electriv sander to my car and start polishing back the internals of my car in my garage, but im this close |---| to pullin my engine apart at the moment, cause its doing some very strange things at the moment, and if i got it apart i may aswell get it sandblasted or port and polished if its not too expensive.
btw when i say I am going to pull my engine apart, i mean my mechanic.
Its very strange how my engine has been behaving lately i thought it was cause its getting old, but its only done around 120,000 kms, so i think itsp roberbly from misuse when its cold :(
I am meeting up with my mechanic this afternoon, so i can discuss making my engine new again
+ i wanna pull a respectable run this dyno day :P

if i remember correctly, i think Frank said he had his MIVEC heads ported for a little over 1G, is that right?

if you want your engine to be 'new' again, maybe you might need a full bottom end rebuild with new pistons/rods/seals/rings etc... that'll cost an absolute bomb! 8O

hmm im not really thinking of going to that much effort, maybe just replace the seals and check everything is in working orde,r as well as check out the sparkies (i have had them for around 25,000kms they are the denso irridiums .4mm ones os i doint think they are ment to last that long !) and also check the injectors (I have had the car for around 40,000kms and i havent done an "injector service" what ever that is, how often should this be carried out ?. As well as replace the gaskets on the exhaust (when they tested the exhaust system on my car the exhaust isnt sealled properly any more). and what ever anyone else reccomends i do as well as what my mechanic reccomends, oh and they usuall oil/oil filter, coolant. I might try an oil flush because my oil has ended up very dirty every time i change it (which is every 6-7,000 kms).
can u recomend anything else that wont cost too much in parts (im not worried about labour)
oh and does anyone know how to get the mut-2 goin with the fto ?? i got one but i think i need a module for the fto, im not quite sure, anyone know ?, cause i was driving home today and my engine just cut off for 2 secconds and came back, it was the weirdest thing, later when i got home i found my battery had found its way out of the bracket does anyone know if the engine would cut if the terminal for the ground came off ?? it wasnt off when i found it, but i have found my car without power a few days before, and moved the ground wire and it came back on.

I've had my heads ported, matched to the intake and exhaust, complete rebuild including stem seals guides, all valves 3 angle cut and seats etc etc. There is so much material that has gone especially from the restricted exhasut valves! A mod I will soon be able to say Go out and get it! All toll, it cost me $1235. It took a while but the job is A1. I tried to take pics of them before I put them back in but my $19.95 digi cam decided to take the YEAR off. bloody thing! :(

Apart from that i've had all intake manifolds ported and blowed, the Throttle body bored out to 64mm, so Air intake mods are well and trully finished. From here the haltech will be installed in about 2 months time and retuned.

This is probably the max side of ar intake mods you could do to the fto, The next step is of course Turbo, but atm i'm keeping to N/A for the next 8 months. Exhaust is nearly finished, i've taken the whole exhaust out and replaced every bend with mandrel bends of 2.25". 2.5" would be too big for N/A so these mods will increase echaust efficiency.

Headers and kept standard but mirror polished so Carbon build up is non existant. Piston Bores have been polished with some kind of carbon crap, can't rememebr the name but geez it's done a good job reducing mechanical friction!. All pullies will soon be changed from cast Iron or Cast steel to Biliet Aluminium. Reducing the Intertia and Weight of each pulley.

There are too many mods you can do to the fto but currently i'm stuck working on our Racing car so time hasn't been kind to me. Today the Throttle peddle got stuck and with the front brakes locked we hit a barrier at 80km/h. Chassis damage and A arms buckled means more time in the workshop less time on my fto :(........ again!

Keep all updated as things re-happen..

off topic: what do you race and where?

It's a university project named Formula SAE. Final year project where we design and manufacture from scratch a formula 1 style open wheeled race car. Running off a 600cc motorbike engine etc etc.

If only the fto was as fast :( 0-100km/h in 3.89 secs total weight including driver is 380kg with about 80kw out of the engine. Paddle shift 6 speed transmission, motec m800 lcd data logging, space frame design it's an awsome thing to work on at my age and be able to drive it, except now we can't :( bloody peddle got stuck and hit a wall :(

i fianlly found out why my cars been screwing around lately, my injectors are screwed, they have needed a service for ages, for anyone who doesnt know how to tell if your injectors need a service, follow the return fuel line (the top one) down under the car till u get to a resinator, and grab a pair of pliers and squeeze it, if your revs drop your injectors are in need of a service

how much are FTO injectors new? With some cars they dont cost much, and instead of cleaning them profressionally for around 30 bucks each, they are that brand new.

what were the symptoms?

surging at high rpm?
