Guys as above, need some help regarding a new clutch. I have a manual 97 GR and I dont think the clutch in it will last much longer and want to get it changed asap.

1. What is the part number for the factory clutch?

2. Can somebody recomend an aftermarket clutch and the price payed for it?

3. Im guessing this is too big of a job for the next DIY day. Any recomendations for workshops in the brisbane area that could do the work?

4. Ideas on the labour charge as I haven't had this sort of work done before and dont want to get ripped off.

Factory clutch will cost you a bomb. Try the Excedy range:

Expect to pay 400 for the clutch, 200-300 or there abouts in labour.

Thanks Bennoz for the link. Looks like I will be going with an Exedy MBK-7277HD. This is a heavy duty clutch with a 600kg clamping force. The best price qouted for the clutch so far is $500 and for labour $350. Are these good prices?

My plan is to supercharge latter on this is why I am replacing my clutch. I want to do all the supporting mods first. With this in mind will this clutch be stong enough for my planned 6psi of boost?

Any help will be appreciated.

131615 Multispares. Place is at coopers plains and I'm more than happy to pick it up for you as well cos its close by. I paid 250 for an exedy standard duty clutch. Heavy duty was around 100 more. This place is way cheaper than anywhere I found. Place is a truck parts company and don't normally do cars but they can order them if you're nice. Mine came in the same day even! Real top blokes too, tried to find me a spigot bearing even. Hopefully with the economic bullshit prices haven't been jacked up Let us know how it goes mate. Heavy duty's will be good to use up to double the amount of power the car has stock, so you should be sweet

haha, no worries mate. Glad to help. Thats the same price I got quoted from memory. I paid a bit under $400 to get mine fitted. I'll let you know if I come across somewhere cheap cos I'm getting the clutch done on the sky.line soon.

Ok so I got my new clutch kit and was wondering how hard it would be to change this myself. I was thinking of removing the front bar and driving it up onto a set of ramps. My concern was that box might be too heavy to lift up myself. Anyone with any ideas, a DIY guide or anything that will help?

Jamie mate, I've got someone who'll do it for $200 bucks if you're interested. If your flywheel needs maching it'll be an $35 depending on if his machines fixed or $50 if broken.

$200...I'm sold. Is this person a mechanic or is it a backyard job? The flywheel will need to be machined.

Done by a mechanic but I think he operates outta his house. I'll pm you his details and you can give him a call. Pretty sure he said he's located at Coomera.

I got the MBK-7277HD Exedy heavy duty clutch. I ordered this through a place called Multispares in Brisbane and set me back $361.40+GST.

Getting a new exhaust put on the car on the 15th so the clutch will prob go in the week after. Will let everyone know how it goes.

Sadly I suspect that I might be in for a new clutch, or flywheel..

Getting slippage and clutch shudder.. also some gearbox shudder under acceleration, seems like could be problem with mounts as well :S

The clutch is rated at 1000 Horsepower - so it's a bit strange.. seems more likely that it could be a warped / stuffed flywheel

Could be flywheel, bu tthe shudder sounds like an axle mate... just like me hahahahahha

How easy is it to check?

Could also be clutch shudder if the flywheel wasn't machined properly.

thats what i'm hoping .. will replace it for an uprated one if that's the case..
