This is the workshop doing the work on my car. At this stage details iffy but I suspect my car has been burnt to death. Check out the inferno when they closeup on the gate. I dont think any of the cars would have survived that for 2 hours.
Any suggestions on what I do? I am insured but what do I go about doing? Incident occured on wednesday, so is it too late to report it even though I found out not long ago?
oh my god..

Mate, I'm feeling for ya.
They should be fully insured so you shouldn't have to do anything I assume. Their insurer will fully reimburse you. If that's the case, you won't even have to lodge a claim through your own insurer.
God knows how long it could take though...

You're supposed to contact your insurance company as soon as you find out .. call them first thing tomorrow if you haven't already, wont be too late, but then they can liase with the workshops insurance co.

Thats fucked!
On the bright side you wont have to pay the manual conversion cost!

also you wont be out of pocket as the shop insurance company should pay for it.

that's bad....
I hope your car is fully insured (not under-insured like mine...), as I assume the workshop insurance will pay the amount you insure your car for....
on the bright side....u just cashed in your car, u can now go car hunting...

thanks for the replies guys. im still really sad and reluctant to go and see the car but i guess i should. i have contacted my insurance company and it this stage they need some questions answered in order for them to process the claim. they said it wasnt necessary for them to get involved as my situtaion is not something that happens everyday and reckon it would be better if i deal with the companies insurance. that said i dont have comprehensive and fire and theft will only cover up 10k.

that is such a massive loss for me moneywise but i guess if it does come to that its better than nothing..
but i do have a question in regards to the labour. i never took delivery of the car as it wasnt finished, do i still pay. (remember that the fire started in the paint shop next door and spread to the worksop)

How much labour would we be talking about???
I doubt they would want you to pay and if they do just say that you will charge them for a rentaL car for everyday you have to wait till you get your money

You won't have to pay for labour, as you said, you haven't taken delivery of the finished vehicle yet. Besides, I am sure that any proof they had of the hours they had done is up in smoke now.
They should be pretty good about it (the workshops insurance company that is) as the workshop SHOULD have professional liability insurance. Think the coverage for that is somewhere up to $5m for any one claim (your car should be classed as a seperate claim).
This sort of sh*t happens all over the world all the time. I'm just praying to the car gods that they do indeed have that comprehensive cover.
EDIT, Have a look at this, may give some insight:

theres a sliver of hope i still might have my car. Got off the phone with them and it was stated that there wasnt a lot of damage, if any. Nothing visible anyway. Besides, they said that the car was moved to the back of the workshop (outside the rear doors)a few days before. Seeing as the fire was largest at the front gate it may still be alive. I then asked them when my manual conversion will be done, they said hopefully friday. Hmm what does everyone think?

that you should pray that your car is not damagad and make sure they check all the hoses and pipes mate. Heat will destroy them or make them brittle.
Lets just hope that the car is all good mate

That's fucked Stevo!
Seriously, totally screwed up!!
And dude, even if insurance does pay out, that's only commiseration money; cars have souls too! Especially cars where you throw so much time and effort into giving them a manual conversion
Hope she's okay buddy - let us know...
