DIY Idea - Punk Proofed Exhaust

Like many fto owners my fto has a modified exhaust.

I've got a HKS dragger exhaust on the car and its got a large 7.5 cm radius on it.

I've found that i have a rattle in the exhaust, its definatley a loose stone or other and i have a sneaking suspicion that someone intentionally dropped something into the exhaust...i mean exhausts like that are asking for trouble, right!?..

Question for you guys, has anyone additionally moded their exhuast to include a steel mesh or other inside the exhaust near the exhaust system exit..

The idea is: mould a steel mesh that can stand the heat of sitting in the exhaust tip into a cup shape..then insert that mesh cup into the exhaust so if any punk drops crap in there it hits the mesh and sits at the tip, this way likely to fall out with acceleration.... punk proofed exhaust!

What do we think / any additional ideas / existing DIYs on this one / or horror stories about stuff we have found in our exhaust???

tried vaccuming it out??

ive never had this problem so i feel for u, i think it would work though the question is do u try to apply the mesh inside the exhaust or wrap it on the outside like you do with like glad wrap on a ball.

well i thought if you could snuggly fit the mesh inside and spray it with black paint before fastening it inside there would be no added asthetic impact...it would just look like a normal muffler...but with the added protection of not having a pebble or other stuffs thown down there

If i was to wrap it it would get that added attention and look very 'unique'.

I8A4RE i just noticed that you replied with a shock face!..its a great idea..discrete yet practical!

Im seriously considering doing this, but i need some feed back on where i can get a mesh that will be able to withstand the exhaust heat...was initially thinking of using those plastic grill/radiator meshes but im concernd itll melt in there!!

Well i think it is just such a remotely isolated incident that if in fact someone actually did through a stone into your exhaust, it would only ever happen once. Unless it was some of your friends playing a trick on you or someone you have pissed off.

Anything you put in there is also going to block the pipe therefore reducing perfoemance.

But if you still want to go ahead with this, then just get some chicken wire. We use to use this on old escorts and viva's when we had straight through exhaust's and no mufflers. we used to put it in the pipe when on the street then remove it when rally bashing

i have the same exhaust on mine (how awesome does it sound!)

I havnt encountered this problem as yet, the only rattleing i have comes from the engine bay when i turn my car on for the first min or so....

let us know how you go with what ever you decide to do as i seems like a safe and practicle idea,

cheers n good luck!

Thats your tappets, nothing serious, very common in the fto. If you have mivec they can be adjusted. If you have gr they have to be replaced
