A good start would be giving us a link to the page

In NZ they sell for anywhere between $2k (94 GR in decent condition) to $9k for late models

Thats ~ $1k - $4.5k USD already landed here, so yes, it's possible

Why don't you just import from New Zealand? Easier to get something checked over in an english speaking country and a sh*t load closer...

Clicky -> Here is a direct link to Trademe and FTO's in the Wellington area (where I live). I would be willing to do some limited travelling to check out a car for you IF YOU ARE ACTUALLY SERIOUS!

Clicky -> I could also sort out AA inspections or anything like that at your cost of course (as in you pay them online or something).

Esporting from NZ to Australia would be up to you to sort out, but I may also be able to help :)

You can buy the cars in Japan for as little as 25000 Yen (about $400). Its the charges on top of that that add up. Auction fees, 1K, shipping 2K, compliance 2.5K and then you have a little for GST and rego etc. Youd be looking at about 7K best case scenario. Having said that, if you do your homework, youll still get a better car for the money you spend

I don't know, all I was saying is that you can get them pretty cheap here, you will have to look into the importing costs yourself.

What I do know is that our laws are similar to yours (regarding vehicle safety) so you will probably save money by having most important things done already...

I think our import laws are very strict, tyres and belts etc. would still need to be replaced, irrespective of wether they have already been done in NZ.

Here are some reputable importers, maybe email them and ask their opinions on importing from NZ, as opposed to Japan.

Tokyo Prestige

Iron Chef Imports

J-Spec Imports
