Transmission is k.o'd?

hey guys,

my friend's fto is having problems and i'm trying to help him out cos he needs to get rid of his car cos he lost his licence.

anyway, his car doesn't get into gear.

the car turns on, and when it is in drive, it just revs and every now and then for a split second the car will get into drive and move a little bit. the reverse gear is the same, except it still moves forwards a little bit rather than...reverse.

my question is: Is the transmission f****d or is there an ECU problem, or perhaps another simple problem.

before you answer, here is some additional information:

- the car was running low on ATF, my friend topped it with a bit of random ATF, which i then told him to replace it with Type M ATF as thats what we need
(i'm afraid the replacing of sh*t ATF may have lead to the burn out of the transmission and led to a f****d up gear box, is this possible and too late to replace wiith the proper ATF to do any difference?)

-the car has been jump started before (one time improperly)

so basically, i'm thinking it could be a screwed ECU from the jump start, or screwed transmission OR in the best case scenario, the ATF is wrong and all it needs is the right one.

what you guys think?

What color is the trans fluid thats in there now?
If its a lovely toilet brown, then the trans has turned to Shizm.

Ok first off check error codes.

Second (if that doesnt show anything) replace fluid with dexion III only.

If that doesnt fix it then get a second hand box

yeh but when you say torque converter, do you mean its gone, or do you mean, the torque converter not operating correctly because of something else?

and how doubtful is it that my whole tranny is fked? thanks

as said do codes then flush first then look at next step

The torque converter may be failing, ie slowly deteriorating. When it finally goes, you'll be stuck in 3rd - limp mode.

It means the box has to come out, its not a total overhaul, just a change of the torque converter. Either way, think 2 grand.

check the tps if your having weird revs issue.

The new wreck I just bought has an overhauled tip in it. The guy said it cost $2500 to overhaul a month before the accident (which was in VIC). So it doesnt sound cheap.

Yeah i would say if u cant move anywhere the torque converter is rooted, all the splines are probably stripped/Broken, usually when the torque converter goes, thats it lol, the car wont be goin anywhere lol, unfortunately , however check codes and change ATF
