those tassie mechanics are pricks hey..
Would be cheaper to bring your car over to the mainland & get the work done over here..
screw the loan .. crank out the workshop manuals & get stuck into doing it yourself
if all else fails, take it into the mechs to get it done

how about two cases if u fly down to hobart and do it for me? haha
yeah i know its quite pricey but the place i take it to is the only place i know of in hobart that actually know what theyre doing to a fto...
ill see what i can do about the prices but what else should i do or not do!

one word....."6a13"

Either get a 6a13 or dont bother with the loan cos your gonna spend a while paying it off and it wont be worth it cos the car will depreciate in value. with a 6a13 its a bit more unique and you add a lot more power then all those mods u listed.

Sorry to say it, but +2
That's insane thinking of spending that amount of cash on general upkeep.
Do some of it yourself and learn, you and a couple of mates could handle most of that with the workshop manual (I wouldn't do the seals and tappets myself though, but that's just me).
You could save a sh*t load, also shop around for parts, buy them from the same place and shipping to you will cheap as.

How did we go from a routine service to a 6A13 conversion??

Just fix it!

Actually....
6a13 sounds pretty good!
maybe towards the end of the year when i finish school...
i have 3 jobs anyways i could easily afford the payments now anyways with extra to spare on other stuff.
plus ill be working full time with those jobs so ill have a lot of money.
thanks for the word of advice guys!
gonna start reading up on bennoz's thread!
only 6a13 turbo fto in tas sounds like a good title
could pay off a $10000 loan in a year with a lot extra left over...

haha...lately we've been trying to convince a few ppl here to go the 6a13 route and its seems to be catching on...
By the way, dont under-estimate the REAL cost of a loan, with interest changing and possible hidden fees you might end up paying way more than you imagined. But its up to you, if you feel you can take it on the good luck to ya....

i almost got a loan from a bank for when i bought the car and that gave me a good understanding how it all works plus doing finance at school...
interest was calculated in my equation
oh and i asked the dude that was doing my rims if they did the tappets cos they also service cars
he said itd be one hour and a half job for $130!
thats gotta be to cheap doesnt it?
obviously doesnt know what his talking about?

if the mechanics there are charging him this much just for general repairs ... how much do you think they're going to charge for an engine conversion..

@ ben ...........bahahahaha agreed how did this turn into a conversion
mate if you can pay off a 10k loan in a year why the F&*k would you even get the loan..... save the money and in less than a 1yr you have got the money as you havent had to pay any interest

And just remember, my conversion will probably tally up to 10 grand - all those parts & labour I've accumulated has been mates rates... if not doing it myself...

IMO, and i could get a lot of crap for this. But i dont think its worth turboing an fto UNLESS you want something unique and unsuspecting on the streets, or if you just work on it yourself and make it your own work of art. If you are just gonna get someone else to do it, then its pointless.
If you want a turbo and are not willing to do any work on your fto, then this car is not for you. I really think the fto is a car to be made for yourself (something unique). Thats why you see a lot of fto owners with things on their car that others would not do or just dont have the nerve of doing themselves.
