gearbox problems

hey guys, ive currently got a 95 gpx model fto with a gearbox problem.
sometimes when starting up the car, and i switch it into "D" it will stay in neutral without hitting into "D" when the actual knob is in "D". this problem also arises when i go from "R" and try to go into "D". i have to keep putting the car into "R" or "P" before it will go into "D"
also when in triptronic mode, it will randomly either decided to go up a gear when i want it to go down a gear, or convert back into 'auto' mode. its best off left in auto =S
i went and asked my mechanic about it but he knows nothing about auto's.
i was wondering if this was a problem easily fixed.
if not i would probally look at doing either a manual conversion, or sell my fto for what ever it can fetch, and get another car of some random description.
