Non mivec timing belt & tensioner

im in need of both these parts, mitsubishi is asking $170+ for timing belt and $265+ for tensioner both genuine. I said F*** that!
firstly, do i need to get the tensioner if im changing the belt?
and second, where else can i get these parts?

hmm, i was told by my mechanic (he doesn't know too much about fto's) but he reckons to replace the timing belt he has to take the tensioner off and after that you cant push it back in? im assuming he's wrong?

Yeah, tensioner has to come off when doing it in car. You'd only need to replace it if its shot.
You can push it back in, then you lock it down with a small pin, then you put it back in, put the belt on, then once the belt is in place, you adjust the tensioner pulley so its tight against the belt, then you pull the pin out from it.

another quick question, i can here the tensioner clicking when i first turn the car on and then it goes away after about a minute. Im pretty sure its nothing inside the block, but is it a problem?

I'd say thats a sticky hydraulic tappet seeing as you got a GR.

hmm, ok well ive just ordered the whole kit including timing belt, tensioner, idler and seal for $242 from dayco so il see how it goes after that and then il find out for sure if its the tappets
those arn't hard to get to are they?

Nah, piece of piss. Rear bank is a bit more time consuming thou as you gotta pull the intake manifold off.
