as you all know, there are three variants of engines fitted to the FTO - the 1.8 L 4cyl "4G93" in the GS, and the 2 L V6, both with and without the Mivec, which is called the "6A12"...

not sure which car the 6A13 is from, i think its a 2500 cc engine if it follows normal Mitsubishi coding, and its very similar to the 6A12 (there...)

im not sure about all that though, come on guys i don't even have an FTO yet...gimme some help!

aahhhh it was the Galant VR4 was it? that sounds about right...

6A13 TT is in the galant VR4 and legnum VR4 post 1996 JDM models It is 2.5 ltr,twin turbo, 280Hp, V6, 4 bolt mains, roller rockers, hydraulic lifters, non mivec, fuel injected, 24 valve, quad cam, a very strong engine and revs like the 6A12.Weak point, the pistons which can break the upper ring land if over boosted or the fuel leans out to much. The conrods also look a bit weak but have not heard of them failing yet.also released as non turbo in the galant and legnum in a few countries around the world.

It block is about 1/2 inch taller than the 6A12

technically it's 6A12G for the GPX classification... normal GRs are just 6A12 i think...

well it should have the same clutch plate.
the mechanic who i may be getting my clutch off left a msg for me to get him my engine number or engine model number or something like that.

that cant be right mine was a GPX and had a 6A12AX**** on its engine number

I think you will find that the model identification is done by the chassis number

you should give him your engine number and chassis number

you should find them on your cars license papers

the engine number is different because the numbers preceeding 6A12 is a unique number given for each individual motor... (kinda like an ID).

6A12G is like a classification for the MIVEC engine (think of RB26DETT as a GTR engine classification for the RB-series motor on Skylines)

before you refered to the 6A12G as being for the model classsification of the car not the engine.

your probably right about the 6A12G being to signify it is a mivec engine.

i just never seen it mentioned on any of the japanese sites.

i wonder if it is in the workshop manuals.

6A12 is the official engine number (i.e. on all the brochures and technical manuals etc). From what I can tell, 6A12G is a made up number that includes the "G" from the model code placard on the engines firewall.

The "G" on this placard refers to the car being a "GPX" which as we all know, means that it has the Mivec engine. It makes sense to do this to differentiate between the models, but I can find no reference to it, with the "G" at the end, in any workshop manuals or brochures etc. Just simply 6A12.

The model code of the FTO GPX is DE3A, it then has a series of letters and number after this which tell you various information about the car. The 7th one is the "Vehicle Grade" (model) with "G" standing for "GPX". The 8th one is the "Engine Feature" with "H" being the Mivec engine.

There are a few GRs out there dressed up to be GPXs, so if buying a car, checking the 7th & 8th digit on this placard in the engine bay can be a good way to double check this.
