Hey all,
Got an issue to TEASE your brain.
Basically its a tranny issue. Physically the tranny is fine. Full rebuild aobut 20k ago, shifts funny in tip from first to second small lag shifts from first, feels like its going into nutural then catches second gear. from second to third it judders then catches.
In full auto forget about it, issues are exagerated, as in tip the 1-2 and 2-3 issues are random but in full auto its much worse (leads me to believe there is an electrical issue.
Dont think its an oil issue/ecu reset issue as its already been done.
Checked the ECU Engine & TCU seem fine (no capacitor leaks).
Input/output sensor are within specs.
All wiring and connectors are fine.
TPS is adjusted and is working.
Only thing is the vehicle speed sensor was 0.2-0.3 out of specs (too high from memory)
Would this be an issue?
Tell me what you think guys! Im so out of clues I've got a Sony PSP sitting at my desk I've havent used in ages. If issue is sorted out by shooting me in the right direction or lends me some crap to properly diagnoise the issue I'll hand over the PSP to them free!
Thanks

From 2-3 does it happen above a certain rev range? Mine started having similar syptoms to your own and it would happen above 3.5K and only really 2-3. Then i revved the nuts of it and it went BANG and I lost drive. Thinking it was the box I replaced it but kept the same torque convertor. Only to find that I still didn't have drive
To cut a long story short quite a few UK FTOs have had to replace their TC because of this. If your box has no error codes I would suggest strongly it is the TC on its way out.
And keep the PSP, I hate to think of the cost of you getting it to Scotland

As I said its not the torque convertor.

As I said its nothing mechanical. Torque convertor is fine. Big sign of TC failure is burn oil. Mine is more red than a sore arse hole.

So was my ATF, I had changed it anyway but the rags I cleaned things with looked like a baboons arse. Burnt ATF is not the only sign of a TC on its way out. It depends on why the TC is dying.
I will watch with interest how you get on.
And just to be clear, I think you said
leads me to believe there is an electrical issue
Not
it's nothing mechanical

Mate the TC was inspected I was there when I was shown. As I said its not mechanical. I said physically its fine! No point telling me its the TC when I know its not! I've covered the the internal side of things.
Also explain to me the different shifting characteristics in tip/full auto? Why is shifting worse when in auto than tip?

As I said, I will watch with interest but if it happens in both tip and auto, even to differing exents then my money is on it being mechanical.
And to check a TC you have to cut the cover off and then weld it back on. Otherwise there is no way of knowing what it is like internally.

Ah crap left out one part. When I reset my ECU the tranny shifts funny in full auto but in tip is slowly get better then to very smoother after about 500kms. Also TC was replaced with a new one which still gave the same symtoms. Thats why its not the TC! Ive got nothing to gain from saying its not the TC but its not!
So shift in full auto is crap in tip its fine once I get the ecu to relearn. If it shifts the way it does in tip when in auto I will be more than happy.
So TC out of the equation what else can it be?? Something is pointing me in the VSS area. Sometimes when I accelerate throttle % is exactly the same out of nowhere I get an extra big of power like I pressed my gas pedal harder when really I havent. Maybe a sensor somewhere else not sure.
Opinions appreciated.
