Clutch Slipping???

Hey all,

I realise this is an FTO forum but being a long time member I was hoping someone might be able to help me out with my new Evo. I posted a help topic in the evo forum but I know you guys are good with this stuff so if anyone has any ideas please help me out. A copy of my message is below.

"I have noticed in the past few days that if I plant my foot on the freeway (say 2500 rpm) the boost builds. Then when I hit about 3500 rpm the revs fly up about 1000 - 1500 rpm, then stabilise then the car accelarates normally. My initial reaction was that the clutch must be slipping but if the boost had already been built up and I try the same thing at a higher rpm the car accelerates smoothly.

Has anyone come across a similiar issue? Because my intial thoughts are clutch or traction control.

Also for those of you thinking it may just be the tyres struggling for grip I can manage to get the car to do it in 5th gear where traction shouldnt be much of an issue.

Thoughts anyone?"

Sounds clutch like. You get that clutch smell in the cabin after doing it repeatedly?

One of the most misspelled words in the english language..

def⋅i⋅nite⋅ly [def-uh-nit-lee]

–adverb
1. in a definite manner; unambiguously.
2. unequivocally; positively.

–interjection
3. (used to express complete agreement or strong affirmation): Are you starting your diet tomorrow? Definitely!

I'll start updating the w0rd filter to cope with all the variations

No clutch burning smell and its fine taking off from traffic lights, steep hills, etc.

I've had a couple of clutches go on me before but they seem to slip more on take-off rather than under power. I know the Evo 7's come with an active centre diff and i'm presuming the traction control runs through that so i suspect maybe its a fault in this system somewhere.

This might be a problem to throw over to Mitsubishi... having said that I'l probably look like a walking dollar sign to them. Maybe i'l get the clutch check 1st just in case.

On another note i've had 7 replies on this forum and none on the evo forum. Haha a bit ironic.

Haha no worries i'l see if anyones interested. Perhaps I should just drive to QLD and drop a very large boulder on the roof. That should do it.
