Who has done the head gasket before and roughly how much?
Any temporary fix?
I heard its a big big job....

There are temporary fixes (usually come in liquid form) but if you want to avoid damaging the engine further, I'd be getting the problem fixed properly the first time.
Yes its an arse of a job thou... do you know if its the front or rear bank of cylinder that has the leak?

Yes, theres heaps of liquid products, or even tablets which ast as gasket conditioners or oil thickeners. but they only work temporary.
Its a huge job, probably gona cost around 2k?
Mechanics have checked visually on the hoist and it like its leaking from the rear. front looks dry.

Whats leaking, oil or water? Any discouloration in the sump oil?
I'd be getting them to do a compression test too, before proceeding... it might be something as a simple as a half moon seal or rocker cover gasket.

Only oil is leaking. engine oild is changed only 2000km ago so the oil is still pretty clear.
does nrma recovery vehicle have a compression tester? maybe i can call them since i signed up as a member.

Well, a second opinion would certainly not be a bad thing. Im willing to wager my left nut, that its just the rocker cover gasket leaking & not the head gasket.... and I'll fix it for a case of beer! (you supply the replacement gasket.)

bennoz, really hope that you r right!
FYI, i have all these stuffs done during timing belt change:
1)timing belt kit
2)belt tensioner
3)4x cam and crank seals
4)2x engine cam cover seals
5)4x rear seals
6)inlet manifold gasket
so where is the rocker cover gasket? im happy to take your offer!

Bingo - they were changed during your timing belt service. Cam Cover / Rocker cover is the same thing... I'd be heading back there & getting them to sort it!

sh*t...but still couldnt proof that the cam cover is leaking right. a compression test will determine whether the head gasket is leaking? i guess i'll do a compression test 1st.

Yeah but it'll cost you to test the rear bank, as they'll have to pull the intake manifold off...
I've never heard of a head gasket leaking oil.

haha....you people are so confident!
anyway, did some research and it says some symtoms of a blown head gasket, (not sure of just leaking will have the same symtoms):
1)blue smoke out from exhaust
2)coolant turns milky
3)engine turns milky
4)car overheating, etc etc.
and i have non of those. all i ve done just then was to wipe up all the oil stains as much as i could. Man, its all over the undercarriage. The wierd thing was it had just been cleaned less than a month ago with timing belt service.
The mechanic is a very good talker, and was convinced that my head gasket is leaking and even the part where the engine and gearbox connect is leaking. Damn, what should be the next step?

Are you sure it is leaking from the top of the engine? If it is leaking from inside the gearbox casing then it will be your crankshaft oil seal which is goosed. I did mine last year as it was dripping thorugh the hole at the bottom of the case and being blown all over the underside of the car.
Stopped the rust though

what are the odds of having the rocker cover seals to leak so badly and mess up my whole undercarriage in less than 1month, and its being installed by a professional?
Man, its very sad to hear about it when bad things happen after another, especially after paying well over 1k of hard earned money!

seriously i dont know. Oil droplets are all over the undercarriage that its impossible to trace the origin. I have to wipe them all dry and go for a short drive tomolo and see where teh leak is/are coming from. I pray that its from something which the mechanic had done so i can get it fix without any charge.
Shixxx, i only mivec over the past month and it happen!

referred to my last msg: i only MIVEC once over last month and it happens! No more mivec until the leak is fixed....
gtg sleep now. getting dizzy

If its leaking bad enough then it will throw oil everywhere.
A very simple rule i apply is
If my car is doing something it didnt, after it goes in to a workshop, there's about a 97% chance they fucked something up

All he had to do was develope an oil leak & he gets laid! How does that work?
Oooh, gee looks like mine is leaking too
