Back Window Defogger strips

Hey all, just a really quick question / situation:
I shoulda probably asked this when it happened like 6 months ago+
Long story short- Had to get all tint removed, had a guy come out who does all tinting and do my car - all looked good, then i realisd (well i didnt notice before) that when removing the rear windscreen tint it looks like the defogger lines (those thin gold strips) had kinda been torn out in some spots but not others??
Anyway, throughout winter when i turned the back window defogger thing on nothing would work? It didnt / doesnt bother me to much as mist on window here isnt too often and goes away pretty quick after driving
I do hear a 'click' coming from the fuse box when i press the button - im really not mechcanically / electrical minded so any feed bck would be great.
Also, if something is wrong with the actual strips (due to being ripped or somethign) can they be replaced without having to replace the entire window?
Cheers for reading
