check leads and plugs sounds like no spark
and this sounds stupid but you do have fuel in it?

Thanks guys

not stupid re fuel as it is nearly empty

and wasnt sure where to find error codes

but in the light of day the problem was much easier to find. The fan belt that runs around the air compressor had moved sideways when i hammered it

due to the tensioner pulley wearing out i guess - its pretty worn - anyway it had torn a piece of the belt enough so it was flying around and it cut through the wires for a sensor thats buried in the engine by the look of it. Luckily just enough left to do a makeshift repair by twisting wires together and first turn and it started

its back home now so i can figure out how to fix it permanently - hard as theres not much room to get my hands in on that side of the engine. Anyone know where i can get one of those pulleys and a fan belt

crank angle sensor... had the exact same thing happen to me a month ago
trying to re-connect the wires is what i should've done... new sensor cost $180... damn mechanics...

where abouts are you Beast. If we know where you are we can probably refer you to someone local to you that can sell those parts to you.
Getting them from Mitsubishi is a complete rip. Over $400 for the belt and tensioner last time I checked. Really any shop like Repco should be able to source the belt for you, not sure about the tensioner though.
If you find it easier take the belt and tensioner with you and then they shop should be able to find an equivalent, for sure with the belt anyway.
Mate another tip, to make life easier on that side work on it from underneath. Jack the car up then take the drivers wheel off and you should be able to see hoe you can take the inner gaurd out so that gives full access to that side of the motor. Much easier from down there than on top
