small crash

heres what happened:
I was on the way to work, leaving the home street and stopped at a round about. i waited for a few seconds and started on through to turn right and a 4WD came through doing 75k's without slowing down. The owners stepped hard on the brakes, as ive seen and heard the car breaking, push the throttle down as hard as i can, pulled on the handbrake and yanked the steering wheel to the left as hard as i can, making the back end kind of tail out a little bit.
The 4wd still hit me but very softly but instead of hitting my door head on he had hit the front corner (just a few cm from the headlights) and left a few scratches and a small dent. But thinking back if i didnt yank on the handbrake and tail the back of the car, the 4wd could of plowed into my side, heavily damaging the side and possibly injuring me.
its BS how people say p platers are the worst drivers in the world when its not true.

not good mate

did you call the cops? as he would have got done for that.
a lot of ppl still think that any car on the right has the right of way on a round about but they are now wrong aas the laws have changed on round abouts.
I think it should be made that every one has to read up on the new laws every year.

this is from the RTA web site on roundabouts
Roundabouts
The roundabout sign
The roundabout sign means Slow Down, prepare to Give Way and if necessary stop to avoid a collision.
So, as you're approaching a roundabout, you must get into the correct lane, indicate if turning, and
give way to traffic already on the roundabout.
Enter the roundabout when there is a safe gap in the traffic.
Giving way
Slow down as you approach a roundabout.
You must give way to traffic already on the roundabout if there is a risk of collision. Enter the roundabout when there is a safe gap in the traffic.
so if you want to take it ferther you will be in the right and he will have to pay for your car
link for all info for the ones that want to read it :-

hope you got a witness mate.
otherwise good luck arguing with the insurance companies.
you have to prove he was speeding, or maybe if the other driver is honest...
i know because thats my job. shoot me a PM if you need help.
sorry to hear mate, but i guess in respective of what could've happend you are actually very very luck, even if you end up having to pay for the dmgs, its important that you weren't hert

At least you made it out ok. Not getting insurance involved is a good idea as well, if he foots the bill then insurance company will never know and wont find an excuse to raise your premiums.

yep - could have been worse.
about a year ago my brother was turning into a car park, and a van slammed into him at like 70km/h in a 50k zone.
He was in a subaru forester turbo - the hit was strong enough to open the passanger door, bend the chassis and get this - DETACH THE TURBO. or perhaps to get a better idea..you know the concrete things that go underneath driveways to act as a channel for the water? the van drove up one of them, cracked the hell out of it (4 inch thick concrete), and landed in someones front fence some 3 metres away. needless to say, the subaru was totalled..it also had side airbags, but his right shoulder is still badly damaged with something about the muscle being torn.
He even did the same as you ish, he revved it like hell and dropped the clutch but wasn't quick enough.
i can only imagine what a 4wd would have done to an FTO (and you) if you hadn't reacted quickly ay.
How much do you think the repairs will cost?
hopefully the other driver sticks up to his word..

yeh i got his detail, insurance company, adress and all. He lives 5 minutes from my house so i can hassle him.
insurance will not raise your premuims if you have a not at fault accident.
i did some checking up through JUST CAR and they fked me over saying it was his right of way (even though he was beyond the speed limit and didnt slow down)
the guy who hit me isnt a bad guy though. rang him last night and he'll pay for all the costs when i can locate a part and then find out the costs for respray

sorry to hear this mate. I've had a similar experience but not at a round about.
With the new rules if you needed to get police involved then you should have been okay but don't do that now as leaving the scene of an accident can get pretty nasty.
If you have failed to give away it doesn't matter what the other car was doing, they'll get you for failing to give away then chase the other driver for speeding or dangerous driving. I didn't get the police involved in my case, just put up with the at fault claim, mind you this was in an old camry not the FTO.

if that is the way they want to play it print out the roundabout rules and give them a coppy and then ask them again if he still has right of way.
If you where on the roundabout you have the right of way end of story.

if the other party hit the breaks hard then there will be skid markes on the road they only need to look at them and they can see what car was there first.
even take pics of the site.

Easy...he hit you, so its his fault...circumstances dont mean much in this situation as long as you werent breaking the law its his fault.
