FTO Brakes

Hey guys I'm new here, and not an FTO owner but a CE lancer owner and I am very strongly considering putting the MIVEC V6 into my car. At this stage I am just trying to make sure if it will be road legal.

Anyway, I found a workshop that will do me a drive in drive out deal and will put FTO brakes all round from a V6 FTO.

Can you guys tell me what size in mm are the front and rea brakes? And how many pistons the calipers have front and rear.

Thanks guys.

Hmmmm, from what I've heard, the 6A12 is a virtual drop in for the CE lancer =)

From what I pulled quickly from sources around the net.

Rear = 14' solid
Front = 15' ventilated

Twin pot calipers

This is for FTOs models with the MIVEC engine (GPX/GPvR)

Spetz is from Vic I believe...

LoL Spetz, not having much luck on the Exclusive forums eh?

Dude, maybe you should rock up to one of our events someday so you can have a first-hand look at anything that you might require for the conversion... anything that is FTO related, we are sure glad to help hehe..

on a side note for those who are interested, the recent Drag Combat event in Sydney had a CE Lancer with a stock FTO motor and exhaust work done to it and it was doing low 14s over the quarter...

ps: and when the conversion is complete, you owe us a ride mmmkay? ;)

Hey GPXXX
I got this site from your sig tag on the exclusive forums :)

I live in ACT, and the conversion is only a goer if it can be road legal. At this stage I found a workshop that will do everything for me and give me an engineers certificate but its in NSW and at this stage i don't know it's validity in ACT.
And if I do get the conversion done, then come down here and you can have a ride :)

With the brakes, I found the 15" and 14" details too but that I believe is innacurate as I am sure the FTO does not have 380mm ventilated discs at the front and 350mm ventilated discs at the rear. Seeing as not even an Evolution has that, and that would not even fit into the stock 16" rims ;)

So anyone else know the details??

16 inch rims
mivec front discs 276mm diameter and 24 mm thick 2 piston calipers
mivec rear 260mm diameter and 10 mm thick

the other models with 15 inch rims have on the front 256 diameter and 24 mm thick 2 piston calipers
rear 260mm diameter and 10 mm thick and ( i think the rear caliper is single piston, i would have to check this )

hey guys, will Evo-6 calipers fit on the FTO???

I believe anything will fit provide a bit of mod, but you must change the master brake cyclinder or it won't have the proper "bite", & last time i got quoted around $5000 to put a set of front Brembo calipers & disc with changed master cyclinder. Which I think thats what EVO 6 use.

so the calipers will fit on the std FTO discs? how much is the brake master cylinder itself? i was told that the brackets wouldn't fit...??

my mate has a pair of 2nd hand Evo-6 calipers for sale so I'm wondering what else needs to be done other than replacing the calipers for the conversion...

how much are the brake master cylinders anyway?

Thanks!

As per my pm GPXXX no they wont not without lots of work.... and thats with EVO discs too. The GPX discs are too thin and too small to be used with the calipers.

yeah thanks for your help mark... what if i got largers discs than the Evo discs? will it solve my problems? i still don't understand why Evo dics won't work with evo calipers. on the FTO...

sorry, i'm beginnning to sound dumb...

ok folks, i'm in dire need for some serious braking power... and I'm looking at a 4-piston caliper conversion with matching rotors and pads... What kits are out there that should I be looking for and how much can expect to pay for it?

What is involved in upgrading the braking system altogether apart from changing calipers/rotors/pads? Do i need custom hubs etc as well??

Dude, call up race brakes and see what they can do . . . =)

Get better pads first, I'm using their RB74 pads (which are going for $145 - well that was a month ago)

Used them on the track with a modifed drilled disc suited for a manga, they didn't fade at all, even after 6 or so hot laps at sandown (but I chewed the disc up quite severely =P)

And for people who don't know turn 1 on sandown, you're braking from full speed (around 170-180 klicks for my car) to around 90-100 kph in around 130-150m =) Try doing that for six laps with the rest of the course to deal with =)

Well last time when i check for a total brake upgrades i came across these dude:

http://www.kad-uk.com/mitsubishi_brake_upgrades.htm

but the cost for the whole kits conversion is $3000 Aus plus freight 8O

I end up just changing to DBA rotor, since i already using endless brake's pads

I'm looking to do a minor upgrade on my front rotors and pads in the future.

What combination do you guys have experienced with ie. slotted/drilled with what pads?

Currently I have RB74 from Racebrakes (with 70% left) at the front with standard rotors. When I first had them fitted a year ago, there were excellent. But slowly but surely, I'm getting "hot spots" on the discs. I could get the discs skimmed/machined but that would only be a temporary fix.

So, if you could, let me know what combo works. Thanks!

NB.Did a quick look around on the forum, and the DBA Slotted/RB74 combo seemed to be the only one mentioned. Is this the choice to go for?

I heard DBA rotors warp easily when used hard...
