Thats what happened to mine, after extensive searching it was the immobiliser in the alarm that had burnt out.

So the battery is fine?

Can you start the car off the starter?

So its trying to turn over?????

If it is, then I would be looking at either fuel or spark?

Ya sure all fuses are right? Test between the terminals on the fuse and see if there is continuity.

Seeing as you're all fixed up Kurmut I hope you don't mind if I cut in here?

I'm having similar problems at te moment. I've not driven the FTo for about 6-8 weeks. I was able to jump start it off my GF's car last week and drove it for an hour then tried again 3 days later and it was dead again.

I tried to jump start it of the GF's car but it wouldn't start. It was trying to but wouldn't fire up. The windscreen wipers came on on there own and I though this wasn't right so jumped out and saw that I had the clamps the wrong was round on my GF's car. I took them off and started again, this time the wipers did not come on on there own :) It's reading 13 volts and the lights come on when conected via the jump leads and it tries to turn over but just will not fire up. Any ideas please? :(

Thanks.

Try leaving the clamps a little longer...tink u might need to change the battery. I had a fren who had the same prob and used his gf's car to try n jump start but ti wouldnt fire up. I used my car instead, left it for a while and it worked perfectly fine. If that still does work, well...maybe u got the same prob as kermut?

Cheers guys, I'll try that. As soon as I turn the key the volts drop to zero.
I don't want to sound like a newb, but where's the starter and what am I looking for when I do find it?
Immobiliser is off. If the Immobiliser was on it wouldn't even crank.

its right at the front of the engine. down at the bottom in the middle by the cross member. You will need to get on your back to see it.

Personnally it sounds like you have dropped a cell or two in the battery

I had the same sort of problem awhile ago and that is exactly what was causing it

So I'll ned a new batt then? I've not played with it yet. Was thinking of taking the batt out of my GF's car and putting it in to make sure it's the batt that's busted first. What you think?
