Ok im getting some Advanti lightweight wheels on the car and have two quick questions the guy reckons 18x7.5 with 215/30/18 will fit with no rubbing is this true and ialso heard that driving is crap with 18's where the tyre is 30 opposed to 17's.

The other thing he has offered me is 17x7 with 205/15-40/45-17 which ones would you guys go for oh and the other thing is the tyres that come with it are Achillies tyres he reckons they are good tyres or for an extra 100 ican get Kuhmo Ku31's what do you guys think?

and cheap, 215/45/17 is around 230 per conner
bit expensive than what you looking for,
but defiantly worth a try, you wont regret it

Also - don't forget, if you get the 18" rims, the RE-001's are made in Australia AND Japan - specifically the 18" tyres are made out of the same machines and process' that they use to make the RE-01R and new RE-11, which are two of the most high performance tyres you can buy.
I know 1 person who runs the RE-001 on his R33 GTST..got them the day before a massive R32-R33 meet at the creek, and according to him, he was taking GTR's around corners simply because they were running crappy tyres.
That, with my other mate who runs them on the back of his XR6T Ute...which happens to be running 12psi and no weight in the back. before the new tyres, that was WICKED FUN on wet roads..In a scary sorta "oh sh*t i dont want to die" way..

There is also the Toyo Proxes, which are also apparently very good too, but i've never had first hand experience with anything other then the semi-slick tyres which are just too damn expensive to run on anything but track days.

Remember..tyres are THE most important thing on your car.
they are the ONLY thing to contact with the ground..
Without decent tyres, you aint going nowhere fast.

ok either size will fit and yes the 30 profile will be harsh but with a lower profile comes more responsive feel with compramise on ride quality. as for the 17s go 215/40x17 to keep diametre nice and close.

and for tyres the achilles are absolute crap have had many dealings with these when they heat up too much they are awfull and in the wet they are just plain dodgy, the ku31 are really good and worth the extra dollar they are the replacement for the 712 which imo was just awesome. the ku31 they are one of only 4 tyres manaufactered that got exempletory rating last year along with a goodyear, avon and i think michelen

thanks mate exactly what i needed to know....is the ride that much more harsh with the 30 profile?

GAB adjustale shocks and i think the spring are lowered.

Get the bridgestone adrenalins and don't look back!

Oh and imho, go for the 17's. Ride quality on 18's suck (my current and previous car are/were 18's) plus the power loss jumping from 17" to 18" is quite a bit.

If you didn't want to spend too much on tires but still wanted something decent, could look at the Maxxis MA-Z1. Cheap and ok...pretty much the lowest performer in UHP tires but still better than the next group down etc.

The sumitomo HTR-Z3 are really good tires. In the UHP category and perform quite well. It's a japanese tire and the company is owned by a larger japanese tire company (but forget who). They're quite cheap and performance is good. They've gotten good reviews and i've driven a set...quite nice. My mate who owned the car with the Z3's had good praises for them too.

To everyone saying spend spend spend on tires...just be careful you don't over-tire your car. Too much grip leads to a boring car and will also require suspension to match.

E.g. My riceline is running the brigestone re-01rs and the tires once heated up have too much grip for the stock sussy to handle resulting in sketchy on limit feel/behaviour. Oh and btw, these tires suck in the wet

Yeh ill probly go for the Z3's or adrenilines mate and yeh probly will sitck with 17inch wheels more comftable ride what size do you think i should go as in what tyre size mate?205/215-40/45-17?

225/45R17 would go perfect.
Adrenalin's come in 225/45R17 and will handle excellent.
They're also Australian made too

BUT!
if you want a smooth ride and 18'' rims, go for the RE050A.
Expensive as hell, but ultra smooth and extremely high performance..

I'm good mate! Yeah, can't go wrong with the adrenalines or even the Z3's.

As for size, it really depends on what size your current wheel is and what offset it is. There's rules for what size tire you can fit onto what size rim but around the 215 or maybe a bit more will be a good fit!

Re050a's aren't as good as the adrenalines. They wear quite fast (so do the adrenalines but they give higher grip so that's ok), they are quite noisy despite the asymmetrical design and are about the same price as a set of adrenalines. If you check out some mazda mps owners...most of them bitch about these tires (oem equipment on mps 3 and 6). To me, they actually felt quite good if somewhat noisy, but the adrenalines are a newer/better design.
