Dealers ripping people off (advertising GR as GPX)

This really pisses me off! This is a car in Adelaide I enquired about which they're got advertised as a GPX. On closer inspection at the engine and comparing to some pics of the diffs, this is clearly not a GPX. It has a std 2 ltr engine
NOT MIVEC! Do they do this on purpose? Trying to get more money and hoping some unsuspecting person will buy it thinking it is one? I specifcally checked this out cause I'd heard of ppl advertising them as GPX's when they're not.
I got done like this with my MR2. It was advertised as a GT and as I didn't know anything much about them then, I just accepted it. It wasn't until after I had agreed to buy the car and was doing some research I found out it was a Bathurst, not a GT. Confronted the dealer about this, cause Bathursts are cheaper to buy generally but would he drop the price? NO WAY! So I ended up buying the car anyway cause I still liked it but it really annoyed me, thankfully I only lost $1000 on it when I sold it (and yes! I did sell it as a Bathurst not a GT, I couldn't be that unscrupulous and dishonest with someone as the dealers are!)
Dubes...not now Im not sure if I really want to both looking, I really want a manual GPX if Im going to get one...although, is a good price... and I wouldn't have to get it from interstate...

...isn't the difference like a turbo and over a second 0-100 time. Didn't you notice when you drove it?

Kind of like how this FTO, listed by a dealer on eBay in the link above, is advertised as a 5 speed semi-auto? Even though it's a 1994 model, which weren't made with 5 speed automatic transmissions... If you squint at the picture of the interior that shows the dash, you can see that's it's only a 4 speed.
It's also listed as RWD.
Although obviously these things are a lot easier for an uneducated car enthusiast to figure out during an inspection.

Yeah but I didn;t know that at the time of test driving the vehicle...
As I said I'd not had anything to really do with MR2's before, I just saw the ad in the trading post and wanted it, haha. Girls = easy to please as long as its easy of the eye
Nevertheless, that experience taught me a great many things and Im am now much the wiser. Im quite a trusting soul and tend to take people and things how I find them, however now I am much more suspicious now and tend not to take things just on face value anymore, esp with cars!
I also am quite impulsive and if I see something and want it then I find a way to get it and get a bit caught up in the whole thing, which means I rush in and then get caught out a lot...not good!

They do it all the time. Thats why this forum is here.
To be honest, there is isn't much performance difference & with the cars being this age, there isn't much price difference either. These days you pay more for less kms no matter what the model FTO.

On another note.. Are there actually any of the 4 cylinder GS model FTOs in Australia? I've never seen any for sale, and I've never seen them mentioned on the forums.

Have decided not to even bother looking at this afterall despite the deception, slackass dealer hasn't got back to me anyway, so that shows you how much they wanna sell it. There's other cars around the same price and I
know they're GPX's (seen engines)

"phantom" from SA has one, the only one in the club I think.

Try somewhere like Prestige Motorsport and just get them to keep an eye out at the auctions.
i know that a black 2000 model GPvR went through them a few months ago, which had under 60,000k's confirmed with mitsu.

The dealer finally got back to me so I have decided to go and look at the car anyway, even if just for a test drive as I've not driven an FTO yet so may not even like them! (unlikely though I know...haha, however did want a Nissan EXA when I just started driving and went and drove one and decided I really didn't like driving it afterall, so it can happen!)
I also told the dealer the car wasn't a GPX

and copy and pasted some links of the FTO and engine specs to prove it. Made it look like they prob just made a mistake rather than accusing him of LYING

Prob won't go down too well but at least they won't be thinking I know nothing about the car (or cars in general as car yards tend to think of girls) and think they've got me hook, line and sinker. If he doesn;t get back to me I don't really care as plenty more FTO's in the sea so to speak

lol its cool, im not judgeing... i know nothing before i started driving... like i had high school girl friends that knew more then me about cars...
Btw its good to be suspicious with cars, be thorough... think of it this way, if you gave in to impulse you could be driving a swift right now
