Been having lots of problems with my recently bought FTO. Spend 2grand on its transmission and battery problems a few weeks ago and now... there smokes coming out of my vents. Send to a mechanic which says my heating core is leaking beneath my dashboard and he's asking for 2 grand to get it repaired.. i'm in melbourne... can someone help me with alternatives? i can't afford to fork out another 2 grand!!!

2 grand to replace a heating core ... Get a second hand core and replace it ... If you want to save some cash,, speak to Dstocks... He may have a spare laying round, and he has guides for pulling apart the dash ... It should not cost 2k though ... I think you should be able to get to the core without taking out the dash ... I did to my Lancer ...

yip its not hard job just time consuming thats why high cost pulling dash apart and putting together is by far main cost..... its actually not to difficult to do just need time and patience the part itself is easy replacement

yep, getting a 2nd hand part through dstocks would be your best way to keep the cost down
then it's up to you whether you install yourself or send to the mechanics.
your 2 grand quote definitely sounds too high though

2 bloody grand. Youve got to be kidding. I can have the old one out and the new one in in about an hour and a half and can get a brand new core for under $200 from memory. Where the hell does the rest of the money go? You pay more than $800 and you are being severely ripped!. Drive to Canberra and ill do it for $150 + parts

Even with taking the dash out its only another hour, 30 minute to remove and 30 to replace.

up to you dude... at least we saved you a grand!
i'd vouch for Nandi Autocare, they're getting a good
reputation for looking after our club members...
haven't heard any negative feedback from anyone that's dealt with them.
can't comment on Bowie from Clayton coz i've never heard of them before

Lol... What I would do is get a 2nd hand heating core and get the mechs to fix it. Its much cheaper rather than get the mech to get u one. Thats what i always do anyway

Yeah, but im fully sik bro dont ya know. Faster than Macguyver (but I need more tools

) Gotta include beer oclock in there somewhere
Seriously though, Id have to get the heater core out of one of the other cars (or organise a new one). Theres extra time in that.

You dont have to justify yourself dwayne, i think what your asking is a bloody good price....... especially considering his alternatives

I think he is silly if he doesnt get a club member to do it.
FFS 2 grand

Shouldnt cost more then $300 max, and if you want a quick cheap fix get them to re Route the piping past the Heater core, it only cost me $90 to get that done.
