when it idles for a minute what revs is it at. With the very limited info you have given im starting to think stepper. After it dies can you restart the car?

It idles at around 500-1000rpm..and yes, i can turn the car on straight after but the same thing happens.
EDIT: I also forgot to add that when my window broke a while back and i took it to the glass place to fit it, they reset my battery and this same thing happened for a few days, and then it started to work fine.

sounds like stepper to me. After the system is reset it can take a few days for the stepper motor to correct itself to the right position again when they are on the way out. Mine seems to be doing that at the moment. Really doesn't like running cold either or part throttle.

Ok. So heres what happened today. I was driving and i got out of my driveway without the car switching off, and about 5 mins later down the road, i stopped at a traffic light and the revs just dropped and the car switched off.
So after driving for 30 mins with 2 legs (one on brake and one on the accerlarater to keep the revs up) i got home and stopped in my driveway and the car stayed on for about 2 mins on its own, then switched off. I then turned the car back on and the revs maintained themselves and the car didnt switch off for about 10 mins until i switched it off.
I am still able to turn the car on without any problems, but ever since changing the battery the start has had a different sound....Instead of like a brroooom brrooom then on...its kinda like a fast scraping noise then the car switches on.
Is my problem the stepper motor or is there something else i should be looking at also ?
EDIT: When i put my air con off the revs drop, when i put it on it goes up. I dont know if this has anything to do with it.

Is there any way to check whether the stepper is definately the problem ? Like does it get worn out (sorry for my noobness - i dont really know what it is)...
as for starter, the car starts fine....and i should have made it clearer...its not reall a scraping noise, the car just starts up faster then it used to before i got a new battery.
How can i check the alternator ?

keep a close eye on volt metre if it drops considerably when things like indicators lights etc are on then a bad sign
stepper is one of most common fault on fto check the forums
easy to replace about 5mins and cheap to do you could try cleaning it first but will only be very tempory

Ok. Thanks mate. I have put up a thread in WTB section, hopefully someone will be along shortly. Thanks for all the helps.
And the volts dont drop much when i turn the lights on or indicate. It doesnt really drop at all.

Ok. I have some more confusion to add to this matter. I have driven now for 2 days straight and the car is no longer switching off, although most of the time it is idling at around 600-750, at traffic light stand stills it is around 500. Is this still the stepper ??

ok if the car is hunting as in the revs are fluctuating like for instance between 500 and 1000 revs or so and sometimes stalling then stepper sounds like alternator sweet though still pretty sure its stepper as i said extremely common and symptoms sound just like it

Yes, definately hovering between 500-1000, moves up and down by itself.
