well after having my fto for 3 months I finally have my p's and paid it off
I took it for a spin and wow its orgasmic!!!
it sounds great especially when mivec kicks in and the handling is unreal!!!
I love it!
I drove it through the taroona bends and just went flying through (only Hobart people will know)
Only problem was that when down shifting from 2nd to 1st it is
Quite jerky... Could this just require a simple trans oil change? Or what?
also just bought new 6x6 wiper slots for it from DBA for $578...
did I get ripped off or is it a good price???
also found out that just car want all the money up front so looks like I won't be able to
drive it till next month which is lame but oh well!
cheers guys!

try to not down shift from 2nd to 1st mate it will be jerky and your box wont last :!: but also oil change never a bad idea if you dont know wether it been done recently think it should be every 20000ks

as for rotors think you may have been able to get little cheaper but if your happy than sweet

there nothing like experiancing your first time prob better than losing virginity

 Umm, what are you talking about. Down shifting from second to first is fine as long as you arent doing 100 kmph.

Defintly change the oil and see if that fixs it, also while your there check error codes.

I was always under impression that it was not good for any car even FTO
never did it to mine but if you do it constantly and yours is still sweet than I have been proved wrong

You really don't want to be shifting down to first unless you're about to come to a stop.

Okay so sometimes people DO use it on real slow corners on the track, but they also DO replace their gearboxes on average a lot more frequently.

who the hell shifts from 2nd to 1st????!?!?!?!?

if you really have to do that, at least get the revs right before engaging the clutch

I think we have a little confusion here.

Is it manual or tip?

Like Simon said, if it's tip there should be no problem down changing to first I would think.

For a manual though I only ever down change to first when coming to a complete stop, usually the synchros seem to keep you out if your above about 10 km's a hour, either that our your really forcing it into gear and those 1st gear synchros won't last long.

You shift down to 1 if you hate using your brakes all the time

See this is going to sound wierd, but be it good or bad my integra was able to hit first with minimum effort anywhere below 40km/h... not that i regularly did it that high, but it came in handy for a quick take off if you wern't completely stopped.

What does that mean in relation to our fto transmissions? Either the integra transmission was better or had 'smoother' synchros or the synchros were f$%ked

??? any ideas

I think this thread has gone a bit pear shaped

Valandis91, congrats on your first drive, i remember my first drive too, it's an awesome feeling

i've always wanted an FTO and when i got one i was blown away by the fact that it drives as good as it looks

Congrats of yeah first drive dude. But try not to shift down from 2nd to fist gear when your cutting down speed man. Its gonna screw yeah gear box. First gear for me is only to move the car forward. Most ill just cut down to 2nd gear while takin corners at high speed. Or even at 3rd gear. Cheers n enjoy ya ride dude

Its a tip and it does it by itself in auto mode...
I was also doing it in sports mode because my front discs
are about to die so didn't really want to brake to much...

hmmm i find it almost impossible to shift from 2nd to 1st (i have a manual) but i though the synchros are trying to protect my gearbox and engine from the high revs.
i have never driven with a tip box, but i was under the impression that first gear is to get you going from standstill and not to mention the fto has an incrediblely short first gear. i also understand that the lack of low down torque can be quite fustrating, it takes a while to build up my revs (from example 1200rpm at really low speeds) in second gear but its all part and parcel of owning a fto (oh the joys!)

As said, tip box will have no problems going into first but with a manual...try not to do it too much OR give it the correct revs before slotting into first, thus saving your synchros. A good blip of the throttle and a constant gentle push into first should get it in.

Congrats on your fto! :) I remember my first drive and it wasn't that great for me because i bought a manual fto as a first car and had never driven manual before, lol. But yes, the FTO drives brilliantly and still has handling that would shame a lot of current cars.

Can you go to the tracks like ... oran park, wakefield etc ... if you got your L's or P's?

Is there an age limit? i wouldnt mind spending few hundred for some fun and gain a shitload more experience :D

P's are fine though with L's i don't think so. Some places that do advanced driver training may take on L's though.

Definitely do it!

I was talking about the tip (i also knew he was) but regardless even when down shifting to any gear, its not going to do harm to your vehicle as long as its in the vehicles rev range for that gear. eg if your car revs out to 60km in first then as long as your under that speed (i would also be under considerably) your gearbox will be fine. One other consideration is also maintance if you dont service it, then dont expect to last with any hard driving that also means accelerating.

You cant say never down shift down to first, what about hill driving you try taking a hairpin corner up hill in second and you will have god dam charades over taking you  even worse excel's
