regardless if the owner of the phone calls up the carrier the phone gets bared from the entwork and you cant use the phone at all so if your selling it it would have to be cheap in my opinion as theres a high risk of reporting it lost or stolen.

yes but if someone not from tassie buys the phone then they can just say it was from a interstate traveller so they cant return the phone and the new owner will be able to unblock it...
well thats what the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association pretty much said to me

If you found it cant you just take the old sim out and put your one in ? It should work...I found an LG shine a while back and just put my sim card in and it worked. As far as i know, the phone cannot be blocked, but the users sim card can.

Phones CAN be blocked...

I've done it to a N95 that i lost a while back...

The phone was returned to a police station and when i picked it up it was unuseable...

needed to go back to to nokia to get unblocked but was going to cost a few hundred and i needed all sorts of proof of ownership...

threw it in the bin as i had a new phone on the way from insurance....

Put up a price

Selling an item that is not yours is still a crime. Report the stolen item, if no one fesses up than it's yours.

It's like find a bag full of cash, first report it, if know one owns up then its yours. If you spend it and get caught then say hello to a criminal record.

Anyone can lie and claim a phone as their own...how would you figure if its the actual person ? although you can ask them stuff like who's in the phonebook etc...ohh well...just answered my own question.

Well, he's selling a phone which he claim he 'found' that's evidence enough that it isn't his to sell.

I own a 8gb N95 and from what I can tell in the N95 community we hate eBay for this sort of stuff. Just hand it in to the police dude, or can't you start it up to find the owners?

yeah but the thing is if i lost my phone i would never expect it to get turned in so why should i be the nice guy? if i lost it i would just get over it and buy another one...
im still thinking about it

Because if he got that phone on a plan, its worth 1700, and to buy by itself, 1200.

Also why SHOULDN'T you be the nice guy?
